Delaware Art Museum

The Delaware Art Museum’s Museum Educator Development Program is a 12-month placement that offers a select opportunity to develop hands-on experience and a full range of skills in museum and art education. Museum Educators (MEs) work closely with museum staff and collaborate with each other to design curricula, lead tours, and facilitate programming that aligns with DelArt’s education goals. Along with these primary responsibilities, MEs can gain added opportunities and exposure to the museum field by contributing to special projects, partnerships, and public programs in the Art & Learning Department. This program seeks applicants who are currently pursuing a graduate degree, have recently completed an undergraduate or graduate program, or can demonstrate equivalent professional experience in their application. This is a part-time temporary position offering compensation of $20/hour.

Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Leading in-gallery tours of the Museum’s permanent collection and special exhibitions to adult and student (K-12, college/university) groups
  • Facilitating in-classroom visits and activities with K-12 school partners (pilot program expected for 2025-26 academic year)
  • Collaborating with other Museum Educators and Art & Learning staff by sharing techniques, resources, research, and knowledge to improve our education curriculum and tour offerings
  • Preparing for tours by learning the tour curriculum or outline, arriving at least 30 minutes early on the day-of, and ensuring that activities and tour aids are prepped in advance
  • Participating in biweekly in-service days to update and maintain tour aids and resources, as well as to engage on-site with fellow Museum Educators and Museum staff
  • Occasionally assisting teaching artists in facilitating studio art projects

HOURS & SCHEDULE

Museum Educators complete a maximum of 50 hours per month.

Museum Educators must be available Thursdays from 8:30am-12pm for weekly student tours and Thursdays from 1-3pm for biweekly in-service days. Additional tour opportunities may arise, and MEs are encouraged to be available to lead 2 tours a week. Tours primarily take place between 9am and 12pm, Tuesday through Friday.

Additionally, Museum Educators can fulfill monthly hours by participating in training (virtual or on-site), prepping curriculum and materials for tours, and other opportunities within the Art & Learning Department.
