JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Museum Public Safety Officer welcomes visitors in a friendly and courteous manner while providing protection for staff, guests and the collections during the museum house tour.

Compensation: Starting at $15.25 per hour

Work Schedule:  Wednesday - Sunday 10 AM - 5 PM, approximately 35 hours per week; 10 month position, off January and February while museum is closed to the public; eligible for benefits throughout the year

Responsibilities:

1. Greet visitors in warm, friendly manner during self-guided house tours.
2. Ensure that visitors follow collection safety protocols and do not touch museum objects or enter with food, beverage, backpacks, etc
3. Answer basic questions relating to museum functions, locations, events and provide directions
4. Keep supervisor aware of any safety or security issues.
5. Have a basic understanding of Winterthur collection and procedures and policies
6. Assist with any emergency situations with visitors or staff members
7. Attend training sessions to include taking of museum tours.

Requirements

Minimum Experience: 1+ years of customer service or security experience with a high school diploma

Preferred Experience: 2+ years customer service or security experience in dealing with large crowds. First Aid, CPR certification, EMT experience

Essential Functions:

1. Ability and willingness to stand for majority of a shift of up to 7 hours
2. Ability to climb stairs
3. Be able to open and close heavy doors; ability to push/pull 20 lbs
4. Be able to be outside in various weather conditions for brief periods of time
5. Available to work weekends, occasional nights and holidays (including the 3 days following Thanksgiving and week between Christmas and New Year’s)
