Darlington Arts Center

Darlington Arts Center (DAC) was founded in 1978 on the unique vision of including all four arts disciplines–music, visual arts, dance, and drama– in one space with an emphasis on multi-disciplinary programming. DAC has served the Delaware and Chester counties and Delaware State communities for over 40 years by fostering programs that provide possibilities and opportunities through the exploration of multi-disciplinary arts. DAC is committed to building, preserving and growing with the community we serve and the community of teaching artists. Our mission and core value is providing Every Art for Everyone!

A core focus of our mission is our Arts Education Outreach Program, in which Darlington provides arts programming free of charge to students in historically underserved communities. We currently have two programs at two off site locations (both in Chester, PA).

Darlington Arts Center (DAC) seeks a skilled drama/music teaching artist with at least one year of teaching experience in general music and theater for group classes for our offsite Outreach Program from September 2024 to June 2025.

We are looking to fulfill the position before August 15, 2024

Required Experience:

At least 1 year of teaching experience

A background in various techniques (music, movement, devising, playwriting, improv, etc.)

Experience working with young children (specifically Kindergarten)

Must have clearances (PA Child abuse, FBI Fingerprints, and PA Criminal Background), within the last 5 years (2020). Must have completed before employment can start.

Must have reliable transportation.

Must be available to work Monday-Thursday from approximately 2:00-4:30pm weekly from September 2024-June 2025.

Teaching Artists will:

Provide excellent instruction. Including:

Showing integrity in teaching methods and pedagogy

Inspiring student excitement and commitment to study

Treating students and school staff with respect and kindness

Promote Darlington’s mission and programs to students and school staff

Keep an accurate teacher log book, which will serve as an invoice for services

 

Communicate with the office in a clear, consistent and timely manner. Including:

Promptly notifying the Assistant Director of any schedule changes

Responding to phone and email messages within 48 hours

 

We evaluate performance using the following metrics:

Consistent, Prompt Attendance

Student and Partner satisfaction (collected verbally and on bi-annual surveys)

Student demonstration of improved ability and knowledge (as evidenced in their completed work)

Observation (classes may be observed by the Executive Director or her designee)

Staff Feedback (regarding regular communication and accurate teacher log)

 

Additional Skills and Experience (Preferred)

Has experience teaching dance/movement in addition to drama and music

Compensation

This position is a 1099 contracted employee. Hourly rate is $42.50 per teaching hour.
