Founded by industrialist Samuel S. Fleisher in 1898 as the nation’s first community-based art center, Fleisher Art Memorial is renowned for its long-standing mission of making art accessible regardless of economic means, background, or artistic experience. In establishing what was originally known as the Graphic Sketch Club, Fleisher sought to create a place where anyone, especially those that otherwise lacked access to creative enrichment, could be inspired by art.

 

Located in Southeast Philadelphia, Fleisher remains a thriving community arts center, providing free and low-cost studio art classes along with opportunities for emerging and established artists to exhibit their work. POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of Education and with your colleagues in the programs department, craft, execute and manage Fleisher’s community-based youth education programming. Core programs include Community Partnerships in the Arts; Operational programs, CPA Faculty Fellow, Our Stories Partnership and the development of further partnership based programs for youth.

Develop and be held accountable for an annual program budget. Recruit, hire, evaluate, and manage Fleisher’s faculty and provide support to them as they design curricula and teach art courses. Attract, encourage and enlist partner organizations to participate in our programs, and ensure their experience with Fleisher is positive and rewarding for shared stakeholders. Collect and use data to inform your work, and evaluate programming quality, content and personnel, making improvements and changes based on prudent rationale and recognized arts education standards. Know Fleisher’s partners and collaborators well and support their pursuits for creative exploration with Fleisher.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Public/Community Liaison; Advancing Equity to Programs:

· Represent Fleisher as the public face of youth education programs, serving as key point person for community organizations looking for opportunities to engage their stakeholders with youth art education opportunities at Fleisher or seeking ways to partner.

· Plan, manage, and organize visiting groups from local schools or community organizations

· In partnership with local partners/community liaisons, identifying parents and children for personalized attention for enrollment to Fleisher programming through lottery process or tuition assistance.

· Develop and plan programs for parents of CPA students to welcome and engage the whole family with Fleisher programs.

Community Partnerships in the Arts:

· Coordinate and manage Community Partnerships in the Arts (CPA), oversight of programming informed by funder deliverables. Bring 15-20 residencies to public schools and community organizations per academic calendar year.

· Schedule residencies at existing partner sites and identify new partners whenever possible with priority of deepening existing relationships; plan residencies in collaboration with site partner and with feedback from site director; follow a term system as best as possible.

· Recruit, hire, and orient lead faculty-complete all necessary hiring paperwork and collect background clearances as required by the School District of Philadelphia.

· Schedule and plan ten monthly skill shares and four quarterly professional development sessions, surveying faculty for topics and providing food and refreshment.

· Coordinate a field trip and community celebration for each residency, ensuring proper supplies, staffing, and equipment needs.

· Co-plan lessons and curriculum with teaching artist with consideration of site partner needs and classroom materials, prioritize enrichment and enhancement of student’s learning, personal development, and artistic voice. Reference CPA Logic Model throughout the process.

· Oversee the CPA Master Faculty Fellow program-working in partnership with each year’s selected fellow in order to ensure deeper impact and streamlining of the residency program. Identify a core focus for the teaching artist’s yearlong fellowship and devise a timeline and set of deliverables for each year.

· In collaboration with Youth Education Associate, ensure each teaching artist has all of their necessary supplies on-site throughout residency- encourage the use of diverse materials and art-making methods.

· In collaboration with Youth Education Associate, collect student intake forms and confirm the process and receipt-share information of on-site programming with students’ parents and ensure students’ special priority for lottery program and tuition assistance.

· Manage and oversee budget and supplies for the program, including but not limited to-budget tracking, payroll, supply ordering, and proper supply storage.

· Plan and execute end-of-year evaluations for students and site partners in collaboration with Community Programs Assistant, form report of data to be shared with feedback from Programs Director and Executive Director.

· Support yearly Children and Youth Open House and Exhibition Opening; inviting partners, developing on-site activity stations with the Manager of Youth Programs and including student work.

· Ensure proper recording of residency program by taking, sharing, and storing photos in an accessible database, updating matrix, and keeping community programs calendar current.

· Coordinate and plan site visits from funders, board members, and other staff prioritizing comfort and timely notification to site partners.

· Support Director of Development’s information requests needed as part of grant-writing and/or grant reporting, ensure all components of grant requirements are meant including offsite convening’s or trainings.

· When required, take on additional deliverables as outlined by special CPA partners, such as the fee-for-service Our Stories literacy-based partnership with Sunrise. These may include:

o Additional engagement sessions

o Additional training for specific arts-integration curriculums, in this case, literacy

o Additional communication with program partner to manage staff and/or site

· Additional evaluation needs or funder deliverables, such as site visits, convenings, surveys.

Language Access:

· Support Communications Director and Registrar in expanding Fleisher’s capacity to provide translated materials, forms, and other program information on-site and off-site to local community.

· Serve as on-site translation support when needed to ensure greater access to Fleisher programming.

· Support Youth Programs Manager with pre-registration, family orientation, and other family or youth centered events open to current students or the greater public whenever possible.

· Support Exhibitions Manager with Day of the Dead, including public outreach, event organization, and annual children’s fair.

Other Duties:

· Submit bi-weekly payroll for all programs mentioned above.

· Work with Exhibitions Manager on Annual Young Artists’ Exhibition, including communicating with faculty, collection of work, and promotion of the show.

· Work with Communications Director to market programs and to capture stories that illustrate impact of programs. When necessary, review, and revise program content and faculty information for print, web, and social media.

· Work with Development Director on providing information as required for grant applications.

 

REQUIRED/PREFERRED RELATED EXPERIENCE:

· Four-year degree in arts administration, art education, child development, or related field preferred.

· At least two years’ work experience with youth in an in-school and/or out-of-school time art education setting, including the development of curriculum and lesson plans.

· Demonstrated small- and large-scale project development and management experience.

 

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Can provide PA State Police Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History, FBI background check, and Act 126 Mandated Reporter Training Certificate.

The hiring process for this role consists of an interview with the Director of Education and Education Coordinator, and a final interview with the ED and HR Generalist.
