Position Overview
Full-Time Temporary/Seasonal: 8-week summer program + part-time spring planning
Allens Lane Art Center seeks an experienced and collaborative Camp Director to lead our arts-based
summer camp program. This role provides full leadership of camp operations, including staff supervision,
program implementation, camper safety, and family communication. The position begins part-time in spring
for hiring and planning and transitions to full-time during the 8-week summer camp season. This is an ideal
role for a strong youth-program leader who thrives in creative environments and is passionate about arts
education and community engagement.
Reports to: Program Director
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Operations
• Lead all aspects of the summer camp program
• Supervise Assistant Director, counselors, teaching artists, and support staff
• Ensure safe, high-quality programming across age groups
• Maintain appropriate staff-to-camper ratios
Pre-Camp Planning
•Schedule returning camp staff, hire and onboard camp staff
• Develop and lead staff training
• Coordinate logistics and program planning with leadership
Camper Safety & Support
• Oversee health, safety, and emergency procedures
• Manage escalated camper concerns and incident documentation
• Foster an inclusive, creative, and emotionally safe environment
Family Communication
• Serve as primary contact for camp families
• Host virtual parent orientation
• Communicate proactively about updates and concerns
Events & Administration
• Oversee camp showcases and end-of-session celebrations
• Track attendance and incident reports
• Evaluate program outcomes and recommend improvements
Qualifications
Required
• Significant experience in youth programs, camps, or education
• Demonstrated staff supervision experience
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to manage complex situations calmly and effectively
• Commitment to inclusion and community-based arts education
Preferred
• Prior Camp Director or Assistant Director experience
• Background in visual arts, theater, or arts education
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Work Environment
Active, hands-on role supervising children indoors and outdoors. Flexible schedule required during pre-camp
and camp season.
