Purpose of the Position: Draws from the Presbyterian Historical Society's collections to create and deliver education and outreach resources in a variety of formats with an emphasis on resources for PC(USA) mid councils and congregations; helps mid councils and congregations tell their own histories in ways and formats suitable to those entities; serves as a member of the exhibit team to facilitate connections between outreach, education, and exhibits; develops mechanisms for collecting feedback on outreach efforts and for tracking effectiveness in relation to goals.
Responsibilities:
- Develops education and outreach resources, such as instructional guides, presentations, and history curricula. Works closely with the PHS Records Archivist to coordinate delivery of virtual and in-person workshops and presentations for PC(USA) congregations and mid councils.
- Works with PHS and other Interim Unified Agency staff to develop resources that aid congregations and mid councils in researching and telling their own histories.
- As a member of the PHS Exhibit Team, assists with planning and development of PHS traveling, web, and onsite exhibits, with particular focus on connecting exhibits to PC(USA) audiences; contributes to other aspects of exhibit work as assigned.
- Works with PHS and IUA staff as well as external communicators to publicize PHS resources.
- Develops mechanisms for collecting feedback on outreach efforts and for tracking the effectiveness of outreach, education, and exhibit work in relation to goals.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or the Interim Unified Agency.
Skills, experience and competencies: At least three years of experience with outreach work in an archives, library, or museum setting. Knowledge of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and/or experience working directly with congregants and staff of religious bodies. Excellent written and oral communications skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Proven ability to work in a consultative and collaborative style. Demonstrated commitment to value differences and the benefits derived from working with a broad range of people. Fluency in English.
Desired Qualifications: Experience working with exhibits and with conducting and compiling historical research, including oral histories. Fluency in Spanish or Korean.
Sensory or Physical Requirements: Sight and hearing required. Ability to use the computer for extended periods of time. Ability to communicate via telephone and via Zoom and other computer technologies. Ability to travel as scheduled.
