Independence Seaport Museum

Hours: Full Time; flexible week schedule including weekends and holidays and with occasional evening hours required

Compensation: Exempt position; salary commensurate with experience, generous benefits

Description:  The Museum Store Manager will ensure, either by their own actions or those of store employees/volunteers, a positive, knowledgeable and welcoming customer experience for Museum visitors.  The Museum Store Manager creates and implements merchandising strategies that complement the mission and programs of the Independence Seaport Museum and proactively supporting the shop’s daily operations. This position plays an integral role in achieving stores sales targets and meeting budgetary goals. A love of selling, merchandising, and exceptional customer relations are the ideal qualities for someone in this new role at Independence Seaport Museum.  

Qualifications:

Four + years of retail store management experience, apparel and gifts sales or prior Museum shop experience a plus.

Associates or Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is preferred.

Proficiency in Windows and Excel is preferred; POS experience required.

Strong retail sales background and merchandising abilities, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a love to sell.

Able to show dynamic leadership, create a positive work environment, and train staff to motivate staff for maximum performance.

Welcoming, upbeat, engaging, and friendly towards our visitors and staff.

Committed to delivering a high level of customer service to deliver a positive customer experience.

Strong verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills and enjoy interacting with people of all ages and backgrounds.

Interest in maritime history, sailing and the environment is desirable.

Fluency in a foreign language a plus.

The Museum Store Manager is frequently required to stand for extended periods of time; walk and use hands to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, or crouch.

The Museum Store Manager must lift and/or move objects up to 40 pounds when needed.

Essential Duties:

Create a highly positive and memorable visitor experience that supports the Museum’s core purpose and encourages repeat visitation.

Lead the store team to achieve income goals, sales goals, and all operating objectives.

Process sales of the shop following established accounting procedures to ensure the accurate processing of all POS transactions and inventory movements.

Maintain accurate records recording all transactions and the exchange of merchandise according to guidelines.

Maintain and restock store displays by ensuring that all merchandise and fixtures are displayed, lit, and clean.

Proactively engage with customers to drive conversion and sales.

Maintain a professional and positive presence on the sales floor.

Respond to customer inquiries and assist in making selections to ensure the highest level of guest service is provided.

Support the efficient operations of the online shop including but not limited to reorder of products and supplies and shipments.

Effectively communicate to customers regarding order status.

Conduct physical inventories, ticketing and pricing of products, and process online product delivery.

Open and close cash registers and be held accountable for any discrepancies.

Assist with implementing the social media and marketing plan of the store.

Maintains current knowledge of museum activities, programs, and events; is flexible with schedule based on museum needs.

Perform other duties as called for to ensure the overall efficiency of the store and position.
