Position Overview

The Bilingual Arts Educator / Creative Arts Therapist designs and facilitates culturally responsive, trauma-informed arts programming for diverse communities. This role blends arts education, creative expression, and therapeutic practice to support emotional well-being, identity development, and community healing.

The ideal candidate is fluent in English and Spanish, brings deep cultural competency, and is skilled in using visual art, storytelling, movement, music, or mixed-media practices to engage participants across age groups. This position works closely with program staff, community partners, and participants to create inclusive, affirming, and impactful creative spaces.

 

Key Responsibilities

Program Design & Facilitation

  • Design and lead bilingual arts education and creative arts therapy sessions for youth, adults, families, and intergenerational groups
  • Integrate culturally grounded and trauma-informed practices into all programming
  • Adapt curriculum to meet the emotional, developmental, and cultural needs of participants
  • Use art-making as a tool for expression, reflection, healing, and dialogue

 

Community Engagement & Cultural Responsiveness

  • Facilitate programs in English and Spanish, ensuring linguistic access and cultural relevance
  • Build trust and rapport with participants from historically marginalized and diasporic communities
  • Collaborate with community partners, educators, and cultural workers to co-create programming
  • Honor participants’ lived experiences, histories, and identities through inclusive facilitation practices

 

Therapeutic & Educational Support

  • Support participants’ emotional well-being through creative processes (within scope of practice)
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and ethical standards
  • Provide referrals or collaborate with clinical professionals when additional support is needed
  • Document session outcomes, reflections, and participant feedback

 

Administration & Collaboration

  • Assist with program planning, materials preparation, and evaluation
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and reflective practice sessions
  • Support grant reporting or documentation when required

 

Required Qualifications

  • Fluency in English and Spanish  (spoken; written proficiency preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Art Therapy, Creative Arts Therapy, Arts Education, Fine Arts, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field
  • Experience facilitating arts-based programs with youth, adults, or community groups
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and anti-oppressive practices
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Art Therapy, Creative Arts Therapy, Counseling, or related field
  • Licensed or license-eligible Creative Arts Therapist (ATR, ATR-BC, LPC, LMFT, LCSW, or equivalent), where applicable
  • Experience working with immigrant, refugee, diasporic, or multilingual communities
  • Experience in community-based, nonprofit, or cultural institution settings
  • Familiarity with storytelling, archival work, healing justice, or intergenerational programming
