Job Title: Cultural Coordinator
Type: Full-time position (40 hours per week, some evening and weekend work expected)
Compensation & Benefits: $42,000 - $45,000 annual salary, commensurate with experience 

Monthly healthcare contribution; potential for annual performance-based bonus PTO consists of a one-week winter holiday break, U.S. federal holidays and 15 vacation/personal days

Job Description

The Alliance Française de Philadelphie (AFP), was founded in 1903 by a group of Francophiles who wanted to promote French language and culture in the city of Philadelphia by hosting cultural events, lectures, and providing language education to a wide and varied audience. Today, it remains committed to its mission and continues to be an important cultural institution in Philadelphia, promoting French language and francophone cultures through a range of educational and cultural programs. 

The Cultural Coordinator assists the Executive Director in the planning, organization, logistics and implementation of a variety of cultural, social and special activities for the cultural center of the Alliance Française. This position is ideal for someone who is enthusiastic about Francophone culture and possesses excellent organizational and communication skills. This is a new position at AFP and represents an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to help shape the role and contribute to AFP’s sustainable growth.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

Event Planning and Execution

  • Organize and promote diverse cultural events representing Francophone cultures from around the globe, such as film screenings, literary events, talks, workshops, and performances
  • Create and manage events on the organization’s digital marketing platform Oncord
  • Manage logistics pre-event and during events, including coordinating volunteers and interns, set-up and tear-down of space (which may include moving furniture, installing/removing chairs, serving food and beverages, shopping for necessary supplies)
  • Manage any technical operations on-site (powerpoint presentations, sound/video, zoom)
  • Host events on behalf of the Alliance Française and welcome participants, introduce speakers, etc.
  • Work closely with community partners to ensure seamless event execution
  • Attend staff and programming committee meetings as requested
  • Report to the Executive Director to approve budget and financial aspects of all programming activities

 

Promotion and Marketing

  • Collaborate with the graphic designer to prepare visuals for all events
  • Lead communication efforts to promote the programs in general and/or the events on various channels (newsletters, emails, social media, press releases and community outreach)

 

Participant Engagement

  • Establish and implement strategies to grow the membership base of the organization
  • Interact with event attendees, artists and speakers to enhance their experience before, during and after each event
  • Collect feedback and assess the success of each event to improve future initiatives and to assist Executive Director with development of related fundraising initiatives
  • Serve as an informational resource to members and non-members about the Alliance Française programs

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills

  • Strong written and oral communication skills in both French (native or near-native fluency) and English
  • Legal right to work in the United States 
  • Previous experience in event coordination, marketing and promotion
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities 
  • Computer proficiency and a willingness to learn evolving technologies 
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, based on event schedules
  • Passion for Francophone cultures

Preferred

  • Nonprofit organization experience
  • Degree or professional certification in Communications, Marketing, Event Planning, or related field
  • French and Francophone Studies

Note: This position requires periodic long periods of standing or moving 40 lb objects

The Alliance is headquartered in Philadelphia and is a hybrid workplace with work required in the office. The candidate will need to live in or be willing to relocate to the Philadelphia region. No relocation assistance will be provided.
