Primary Responsibilities:
The Production Manager is responsible for the execution of Theatre Horizon’s artistic programming as well as the maintenance of our space. This role reports to the Producing Director and is responsible for the management of all administrative aspects of production including the hiring and supervision of all production personnel, working with directors and designers to ensure high production standards, and creating and maintaining production budgets and timelines.
The Production Manager helps create and maintain a welcoming, organized, community-centric space. The role is for a detail-oriented systems thinker who is able to make long-term plans and create the steps to implement them. Excellent communication, collaboration, project management and organizational skills are essential. This individual should be comfortable creating and managing spreadsheets, calendars, timelines, and budgets. This person will also be the face of our rentals and residencies; showing people the space and creating and overseeing these programs.
With a $1 million annual budget, Theatre Horizon produces an ambitious season of plays, musicals and concerts for the general public, while educating nearly 1,000 children annually in the Philadelphia suburbs via our drama classes. Theatre Horizon is located in Norristown and serves a diverse array of stakeholders. Candidates for this job must prioritize being part of an actively antiracist environment. PRODUCTION:
Serve as Theatre Horizon’s main production representative and primary point of contact for all production staff pre-production.
Ensure all production deadlines are met.
Act as the primary problem solver onsite for all production matters.
Responsible for all production department expense reporting, processing, and financial accuracy.
Assist Producing Director with contracting and managing payroll for all designers, crew, and technical staff.
Price, arrange, and coordinate rentals and deliveries for the productions.
Facilitate strike and restore the space after each production.
Create and maintain production budgets assuming ultimate accountability for ensuring that productions remain on or under budget.
Attend the tech process and previews - run production meetings. Nights/weekends required.
Read all rehearsal and performance reports - respond to reports and resolve any issues raised - requires up to 30 min daily work offsite during performance period.
Depending on experience, serve as Master Electrician, Technical Director, and/or Audio Engineer on shows, where appropriate
COMPANY MANAGEMENT:
Manage Technical Director, Master Electrician, Audio Engineer and other production crew
Work with Producing Director to create production calendar working in tandem with Theatre Horizon staff and artists as well as rehearsal schedule and rentals.
Coordinate artist hospitality needs including maintenance of Green Room, Backstage areas, Actor Bathroom, and Dressing Rooms.
RENTALS:
Serve as Theatre Horizon’s Rental Manager - handle rental requests from the initial inquiry through the restore of the space.
Accountable for TH’s rental income goal.
Present a customer-first approach to the rentals program, while protecting Theatre Horizon’s resources (both human and facility).
Serve as Theatre Horizon representative and technical oversight for rentals (and/or when unavailable, coordinate and supervise another representative)
FACILITIES:
Assist with maintenance of backstage spaces, including dressing rooms, hallway, shop, green room, and booth.
Responsible for upkeep of bathrooms and signage.
Assessing and delegating repairs as needed. Light manual labor may be required.
Ensuring all spaces are consistently in excellent condition.
Responding to space needs such as projectors or virtual assistance for meetings and events
Research price options and solutions for improvements and upgrades to the space (interior and exterior)
Assist Artistic Director and Producing Director on obtaining permits (where appropriate) for changes to the space
OTHER:
Oversee and troubleshoot IT needs, including hardware and software and other office equipment
Manage supplies necessary for efficient operations and staff support
As needed, consult with Theatre Horizon’s IT contractor
Conduct all work through the lens of antiracism; co-create metrics with Artistic Director to determine measurable antiracist goals for Production Department
Schedule and serve on Facilities Committee meetings
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience & Qualifications:
Experience working on a wide variety of professional theatrical productions that may vary in terms of scope and scale; some knowledge of technical elements of theater.
Demonstrated experience managing people and budgets.
Excellent written / oral communication skills.
History working with a wide variety of people and personalities; ability to create and facilitate a welcoming, equitable environment.
Keen attention to detail and follow through.
Valid Driver’s license required as well as access to personal vehicle for occasional use in transporting production equipment and materials. Priority will be given to local applicants.
Proficiency working in Google Suite (Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms and Gmail).

Compensation: This 35-hour/week position will be paid between $40,000-$42,000 depending on experience. We do not provide health insurance but all employees working 30 hours/week (or more) receive a $412/month stipend. Employees also receive complimentary tickets for all season productions, paid leave, paid vacation and holidays off.
