Purpose: To provide on-site medical care for students and refer them to physicians as needed.
Position Details: This is a full-time, 12-month position, Monday-Friday, 9 am – 5 pm
August - June:
Serve as the Director of Health Services for the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Master of Arts (MA) in Art Education programs. During the academic year (August through May), this position will require serving on an on-call duty rotation one weekend per month.
July - August:
Serve as the Director of Health Services during the Summer Art & Design Institute (SADI), a residential program for rising high school juniors and seniors.
Requirements:
- Current Pennsylvania RN or LPN Licensure.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working in the nursing field, preferably with adolescent and young adult students in a college or university setting.
- Ability to counsel young adult students about their health needs.
- Ability to work constructively as part of a team with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities:
- Use independent judgment and initiative to treat individual students, making decisions regarding diagnosis and treatment and referring them to outside physicians, the Mental Health Counselor, and/or the Dean of Students, as appropriate.
- Maintain usage data for the Health Services unit utilizing Titanium Schedule (Electronic Medical Record Software).
- Maintain patient privacy and the security of patient information in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Assist with immunization compliance and student health insurance.
- Support maintenance by cleaning and sterilizing equipment and instruments, setting up treatment trays, changing linen in examination and treatment rooms, monitoring clinical refrigerators and freezers to ensure they operate at the required temperatures for storing medications and specimens, and maintaining adequate levels of clinic medications and supplies.
- Assist with the development, review, and revision of nurse protocols, procedures, and clinical documentation.
- Document student illnesses for faculty and staff when appropriate.
- Serve as a liaison with other outside medical professionals as needed.
- Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team during health emergencies.
- Meet with members of Student Affairs to assess student health and other related issues and recommend interventions as appropriate.
- Participate in weekly Behavioral Intervention Team and Notice of Academic Concern meetings, held once a week, to discuss students of concern.
- Participate in on-call duty responsibilities one weekend a month during the academic year.
- Implement and evaluate community wellness programs, distributing health education materials and participating in health education events as needed.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions: Office open 35 hours per week; availability for emergency calls; participate in a 24/7 emergency on-call rotation one weekend per month during the academic year.
