Position Description: Glen Foerd seeks energetic, outgoing individuals to assist with our summer kayaking programs on a part-time, seasonal basis. On-Water Kayaking Assistants will aid with 2-hour excursions on the Poquessing Creek and Delaware River. Excursions run Saturdays and Sundays, depending on the tides, beginning in mid-May through mid-October. Assistants may also act as a chase boat driver when not assisting on the trip via kayak. This is a part-time, seasonal position that reports to the Environmental Program Manager, Environmental and On-Water Program Coordinator/Educator, and works collaboratively with all Glen Foerd staff and volunteers.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with safe and engaging boating excursions on the Delaware River and Poquessing Creek
- Communicate with participants on relevant information about Glen Foerd, the Delaware River, the Poquessing Creek and the surrounding flora and fauna
- Demonstrate paddling skills and safety protocols for visitors
- Assist with equipment setup, cleaning, and maintenance
- Handle emergency situations as they arise
Qualifications:
- 1-year experience with on-water programming desired
- Excellent oral and interpersonal skills
- Eager to learn and work with the public
- Adaptable and flexible with quickly changing environments
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse audience of all ages
- Ability to perform physically challenging work outside under all weather conditions
- Willingness to work weekends
Employment Type: Seasonal, part-time, non-exempt. Interested candidates must have the ability and willingness to work on Saturdays and Sundays during the summer, with programs beginning May 14. Training will take place in late April/early May. Shifts are generally 3-4 hours, but may be longer depending on the event.
Compensation: $20.00/hour
