Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens (PMG) has an opening for a part-time Visitor Relations Representative. The primary focus of the Visitor Relations Representative is to deliver excellent customer service and ensure a positive experience for all visitors. They are the main point of interaction for visitors and play an important role in shaping visitor experience by greeting visitors, selling tickets, and answering questions. They help keep the museum in good order and protect the site by encouraging all visitors to respect PMG policies.
PMG is an immersive mixed media art environment that is completely covered with mosaics. The space is made up of two indoor galleries and an outdoor sculpture garden. As a nonprofit museum, PMG celebrates art in its many forms through community outreach, public programs, hands-on activities, exhibitions, and tours. We welcome everyone to explore the space and embrace the possibility of self-expression.
Responsibilities:
- Uphold PMG’s mission & values
- Greet visitors enthusiastically and provide introductory information about PMG
- Operate cash register for sales of general admission, merchandise, membership, event registration, and artwork
- Assist with daily procedures for opening and closing the museum
- Help keep the museum in good order by restocking the gift shop and restrooms, sweeping the outdoor gardens, and performing other light cleaning duties
- Engage with visitors to encourage a deeper understanding of the artwork and PMG’s history
- Prevent visitors from damaging the artwork by routinely moving through the museum and reinforcing PMG policies
- Communicate clearly to visitors and fellow staff by responding to questions in person, answering phone calls, and sending emails
- Occasionally assist with public programming or exhibition installation as needed
- Perform other tasks as assigned within the scope of responsibilities and requirements of the position
Required Qualifications:
- Positive attitude
- Ability to remain patient and calm in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to engage with visitors in a friendly, empathetic, and informed manner
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to change
- Solid communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to remain stationary for extended periods of time
- Willingness to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Previous customer service experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous sales/cash handling experience
- Fluency in another language, especially Spanish
- Experience with Blackbaud/Altru
- Dog friendly
Hours and Compensation:
$15/hour for 16-24 hours per week. Weekend availability is needed in addition to at least one weekday. Schedule may vary and some evening availability may be needed for occasional programming.
PMG’s standard open hours are Monday, Wednesday – Sunday 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM. The museum is closed to the public every Tuesday.
Accessibility:
Please note, PMG has limited physical accessibility as all staff sections and some sections of the outdoor sculpture garden can only be reached through the use of stairs. Parts of the outdoor sculpture garden also have narrow passageways that can be difficult to navigate with wheeled devices.
PMG welcomes service animals and friendly pet dogs to visit the museum. We also have an office dog who typically spends time in the main office Mondays-Fridays.
Our fully mosaicked environment and open office layout can be noisy and visually stimulating. This position is not available for remote or hybrid work.
