Arts & Culture Program Assistant

Glen Foerd is a dynamic cultural institution committed to enriching our community through arts, culture, and environmental education. As a Program Assistant within our Arts & Culture Department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the success of our programs.        

Position Summary: The Arts & Culture Program Assistant collaborates closely with the Arts & Culture Program Manager to execute engaging programs that resonate with our diverse audience. The Assistant will provide essential backup and support for the following:

 

Responsibilities

              Artist Residency and Youth Programs Oversight

  • Assist the Program Manager in overseeing Glen Foerd’s popular Artist Residency Program, Seasonal Teen Arts initiative, and Lily P.A.D.S. weekly children’s programs.
  • Coordinate logistics, communication, and scheduling related to these programs.
  • Support artists and participants during residencies and events.

Program Development

  • Work alongside the Program Manager to develop monthly public programs.
  • Contribute creative ideas and assist in planning engaging cultural experiences.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance program offerings.

Visitor Experience Enhancement

  • Organize public tours and train Visitor Services Assistants to lead informative and enjoyable tours.
  • Continuously improve the interpretation of our site through programming, printed guides, and signage to enhance guest experiences.

Program Evaluation and Improvement

  • Assist in the development and implementation of program evaluations to assess effectiveness and gather feedback.
  • Use insights to refine program content and delivery.

Large-Scale Events

  • Support the coordination of large-scale public events, including staffing and event setup/breakdown.
  • Ensure seamless execution and positive guest experiences.

Program Calendar Management

  • Develop and maintain a calendar of engaging programs, aligning with organizational goals.
  • Coordinate scheduling and logistics for various events.

Intern and Part-Time Staff Development

  • Play a key role in training, developing, and motivating interns and part-time staff, including high school Bloomberg Arts Interns.
  • Foster a positive team spirit and contribute to a collaborative work environment.

Rentals and Group Sales

  • Respond to inquiries, provide quotes and assist in the completion of applications or contracts for private rentals, photography, tour groups, and other events.

Collections and Loan Art Objects

  • Assist in the communications and handling of objects from the collections and loaned art objects. Submit reports regarding stolen or damaged objects.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in history, art, museum studies, education, or a closely related field. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in program development and delivery.
  • Passion for creating engaging cultural experiences.
  • Familiarity with organizing events for the public, even if on a smaller scale. Exposure to large-scale event coordination is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent organizational abilities to manage program logistics effectively.
  • While prior team leadership experience is not mandatory, a willingness to collaborate and work well within a team is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience with graphic design tools, even at an introductory level.
  • Creativity in visual communication is valued.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Soapbox Engage, Mailchimp, Squarespace, Typeform, and Canva is advantageous.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new software platforms.
  • Availability for night and weekend work, as needed for program events.

 

Compensation & Benefits

Range - $38,000 - $41,000 Annually & Healthcare Plan
