BalletX, Philadelphia’s premier contemporary ballet, seeks a Director of Education & Dance eXchange to lead and expand the organization’s education and community engagement programs. This role is responsible for the
strategic direction, implementation, and evaluation of Dance eXchange, BalletX’s in-school dance education
program, while overseeing a broader portfolio of education initiatives including open classes and community-
based programming.

The Director will lead efforts to create impactful educational experiences, build strong community partnerships,
and drive initiatives that promote engagement, accessibility, and long-term audience connection to BalletX. This
position plays a central role in advancing BalletX’s mission by fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation
of contemporary ballet across diverse communities.

The Director will lead the implementation of a five-year strategic plan specifically for Dance eXchange, building a
strong and sustainable program infrastructure that supports high-quality, consistent program delivery and
responsible growth. This includes establishing a clear program framework, strengthening staffing structures, and
formalizing systems for partnerships, curriculum, evaluation, audience development, and long-term
sustainability.

The Director oversees a team of approximately 10 part-time Teaching Artists and a part-time Education Manager
who supports the administration of Dance eXchange and BalletX’s broader education programs, and
collaborates closely with the Administrative Coordinator to build and sustain external partnerships.
This position requires an experienced dance educator and proven leader who can translate vision into clear
systems, mentor a team, and deepen BalletX’s impact across Philadelphia communities. To learn more about

This position is full-time with a competitive salary range of $60,000-$75,000 (commensurate with experience)
and accompanying benefits including health insurance, 4% 401k match, and paid time off. BalletX is an equal

Key Responsibilities
Dance eXchange Strategy & Leadership
● Lead implementation of Dance eXchange’s five-year strategic plan
● Establish and institutionalize program mission, vision, values, and core frameworks
● Develop and maintain a comprehensive program handbook and delivery model
● Define criteria for partner school selection and long-term engagement
● Identify opportunities for responsible growth, expanded reach, and deeper impact

● Serve as the primary internal and external ambassador for Dance eXchange

Leadership & Teaching Artist Development
● Manage and mentor a team of approx. 10 Teaching Artists and a part-time Education Manager
● Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate teaching artists across Lead, Assistant, and Musician roles
● Establish clear job expectations, performance standards, and evaluation systems
● Build a consistent, high-quality teaching model across all program sites
● Foster a collaborative, accountable, and values-driven team culture
● Ensure alignment with best practices in dance education, including National Dance Institute
methodology

Dance eXchange Delivery, Curriculum & Evaluation
● Oversee curriculum development aligned with BalletX’s artistic identity and education goals
● Ensure consistent, high-quality program delivery across all partner schools
● Manage onboarding and communication with partner schools and classroom teachers
● Develop and maintain a standardized annual program calendar
● Implement evaluation tools to measure student outcomes and program impact
● Use data and feedback to continuously improve curriculum and delivery

Community Engagement, Partnerships & Audience Development
● Oversee open class offerings, ensuring accessibility, quality, and alignment with organizational goals
● Cultivate and sustain long-term partnerships with schools, community organizations, and stakeholders,
in collaboration with the Administrative Coordinator
● Position education programs as a core pipeline for audience development, engagement, and retention
● Create pathways connecting students, families, and communities to BalletX performances and events
● Collaborate with Artistic leadership on pop-ups and community-based programming
● Represent BalletX in public, community, and partner-facing settings

Fundraising & Institutional Advancement
● Partner with Development to align education programs with BalletX’s fundraising strategy and
institutional priorities
● Identify and cultivate funding opportunities to support Dance eXchange and broader education
initiatives
● Contribute to the development of grant proposals, reports, and other funding materials, clearly
articulating program impact and outcomes
● Support donor cultivation and stewardship efforts, including events, site visits, and program
demonstrations
● Provide data, storytelling, and program insights to strengthen cases for support and donor engagement

Systems, Planning & Administration
● Develop and maintain systems, documentation, and workflows to support program sustainability
● Develop and manage education and outreach budgets with a focus on efficiency and impact
● Monitor expenses and ROI to maximize program effectiveness
● Track timelines, deliverables, and key milestones across programs

● Ensure documentation supports evaluation, fundraising, and long-term planning

Qualifications & Experience
● Required: 5–7+ years of experience as a dance educator, with demonstrated excellence in teaching and
curriculum development
● Required: Proven experience in a leadership role managing education programs and/or teaching artists
● Strong background in curriculum development, program implementation, and evaluation
● Demonstrated success building and managing partnerships with schools or community organizations
● Experience aligning education programs with audience development or community engagement
strategies
● Familiarity with National Dance Institute methodology strongly preferred
● Exceptional organizational, project management, and communication skills
● Experience managing budgets and program operations
