DESCRIPTION

We seek an Equity Assistant Stage Manager for part of our 24-25 season. This is a crucial role within our production team, offering an opportunity to develop your stage management career under the guidance of an experienced Production Stage Manager (PSM). The ASM reports directly to the Production Stage Manager and, as a member of the production staff, ultimately reports to the Production Manager.

This position includes running the deck during shows (both moving props and scenery and managing/instructing IATSE stagehands during performances), ensuring that all stage setups, transitions, and operations are executed with precision and efficiency. This demands a balance of strong leadership skills and a supportive, approachable demeanor to foster a positive and productive environment. This position works closely with the PSM to implement and maintain high standards for all aspects of the production. The ability to communicate effectively with various departments, including lighting, sound, costumes, and props will be key to ensuring that every element of the production integrates seamlessly.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Stage Manager duties include, but are not limited to:

• Assisting the Production Stage Manager with:
           o pre-production arrangements and communications,
           o monitoring and running rehearsals,
o tracking props, blocking, and scene changes
o generating running sheets for performances,
o supervising and managing the stage crew, including moving set pieces (sometimes in costume),
o monitoring and maintaining the cleanliness and safety of rehearsal and performance spaces,
           o assisting in strike and post-production clean-up

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

The desired experience and qualifications for this position include:

  • Degree in stage management + 1 year experience, or 3 years of experience.
  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proactive problem solver
  • Collaborative spirit and the ability to work effectively within a team.

EOE: Bristol Riverside Theatre is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds and perspectives and better reflects the community as a whole.
