Communications Intern

Wyck Association

Wyck is looking for a Communications Intern to help us with social media, public relations, email messaging, and website content.  This volunteer position will require 15 hours of time each week and will provide valuable hands-on experience in communication specifically for a small, vibrant, and growing organization.

Wyck, a historic house, garden and farm, is a hidden gem in the heart of Germantown, Philadelphia (wyck.org).  The homestead was home to nine generations of one Quaker family from 1690 until 1973.  Wyck’s distinguished historic landscape includes the oldest surviving rose garden in the United States as well as a Home Farm, the produce from which we sell at a weekly on-site farmers market.

The Communications Intern will oversee implementation of Wyck’s communications plan under the supervision of the Executive Director.  This position will also work closely with all Wyck staff to ensure that each program and the organization overall is receiving proper promotion/publicity.  The Communications Coordinator needs to be creative, resourceful, outgoing, persuasive, and dependable.  Excellent written and verbal communications skills (including a sharp eye toward grammar and spelling), and experience with both traditional communication methods and social media, are a must.  Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Constant Contact, and WordPress is a plus.  Specific responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate annual communications and publicity plans for all programs and oversee their implementation with other Wyck staff
  • Coordinate electronic messaging
  • Develop and manage social media efforts
  • Help develop and place stories
  • Refine and manage PR list/contacts
  • Ensure distribution of publicity to community groups, area businesses, etc.
  • Help us identify new promotional opportunities appropriate for Wyck’s audiences and budget (local and regional)
  • Help create and mail promotional materials
  • Assist with the design of promotional material

Availability during the work week is essential, although some work can be done remotely and on weekends.  Help during at least one of our Saturday programs would also be appreciated.

Wyck is seeking a Fall 2017 intern and a Spring 2018 intern.
