DVG 2009 Fall Conference: Information - Innovation - Inspiration

Please join us for Delaware Valley Grantmakers’ 2009 Fall Conference – Information * Innovation * Inspiration – being held Thursday, October 27 from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM at the Independence Seaport Museum in Philadelphia. This annual event brings together grantmakers, nonprofit executives and public/civic leaders from across the region for a day of networking, idea sharing and dialogue.

The 2009 conference will feature remarks and conversation with one of the philanthropic sector’s foremost thought leaders, Paul Brest, President of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and co-author of the book Money Well Spent.

Responding to Mr. Brest’s commentary will be our own regional philanthropic leaders, Feather O. Houstoun, President, William Penn Foundation and Bruce Melgary, Executive Director, The Lenfest Foundation.  Loraine Ballard Morrill, News Director and Community Affairs Director at Clear Channel Radio, will moderate a discussion of innovative local partnerships that are addressing social problems.

Also on the agenda is a representative from the Obama Administration who has been invited to talk about plans for the new Social Innovation Fund.

Family Writing Series

The Painted Bride Art Center and Spells Writing Center have joined forces to start a new Family Writing Series inspired by the artwork displayed in the Bride’s Independence Foundation Gallery for the Visual Arts.  Children and their parents/grandparents/aunts/uncles/cousins are invited to an exclusive tour of the Semilla Arts Initiative’s multi-media installation with the artists: Pedro Ospina and Betsy Casanas.  The tour will be followed by an interactive writing workshop where families will work together to create poems, stories, and illustrations about their own neighborhoods - past and present.  This FREE workshop is for children and adults of all ages!
