Board Meetings: Is Your Organization Complying with Parliamentary Procedure?
Nonprofit Boards are expected to follow parliamentary procedure during their meetings. Directors rightfully expect (as do members) that those running a meeting know and consistently and fairly apply the rules. Individual directors should also be conversant with the rules and they can be far more effective in meeting their responsibilities and promoting their positions when they do. A failure to operate within accepted parliamentary procedure can lead an otherwise sound organization astray. Did you know a little used procedural shortcut is available to expedite non-controversial agenda items?
Learn about:
- The rules of procedure for board meetings and how they can help facilitate efficient meetings
- Avoiding common meeting pitfalls
- When and how the rules can be relaxed
- How the procedures reduce friction among competing factions
- Many special situations (i.e., ex-officio members, executive committees, and executive sessions)
Andy Goodman: The Four Connecting Points: Communication that Leads to Action
Andy Goodman is coming back to the Free Library of Philadelphia to present a workshop on effective nonprofit communications.
There are four potential points of connection between your organization and your target audience. When you know all four points and build your campaign around them, every minute and dollar you invest will have a better chance of paying off.
Failure to connect in this 'Age of Too Much Information' gives your audience an opportunity to walk away. Do not be 'the noise' that gets tuned-out.
Andy Goodman will cover:
* The basics of framing and strategic communications
* Message creation and delivery
* Classic case studies from the public interest sector
Last day to apply: October 5, 2009
