Volunteer Education Morning & New Recruitment Event September 16th, 2017

Join us for some History Education at Elfreth's Alley!

 

On Saturday September 16th, - from 10-12 am (9 am for new volunteers)- the Elfreth’s Alley Association will be hosting a morning of continuing History Education for new and current volunteers as well as an info session for perspective volunteers.  Light refreshments will be served.

Bob Shea of the Fireman's Hall Museum will be speaking about what firefighting would have been like in the 18th century.  Bob has served as Collection Manager for the Fireman’s Hall Museum for over 20 years and has additionally consulted with the Smithsonian Institute as well as the television program, “History Detective”  & has written extensively on the history of American Fire Marks.  Virginia Loomis who is the costumer for Historic Philadelphia Inc (HPI) and has acted as a costuming consultant for both films and theatre, will be talking about dress in the 18th century with an emphasis on how most of the 18th century residents or the "middling" sort would have dressed on Elfreth’s Alley.  Both extremely knowledgable as well as a delightful presenter, she has reenacted Deborah Franklin, as well as  Sarah Melton, one of the Mantua Makers who lived in at 126 Elfreth’s Alley.
