Delaware Art Museum

Do you love art that tells a story or makes you want to read one? Through the Art Bridges Cohort Program, the Delaware Art Museum is leading a group of six museums collaborating on loans and exhibitions focused on American illustration. Our partners are the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum at Ohio State University, Brandywine Museum of Art, Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, New Britain Museum of American Art, and the Norman Rockwell Museum.

The Cohort Project Manager will coordinate this exciting partnership in collaboration with the Museum’s Curator of American Art and Head Registrar. This is a multiyear (2–5 years) position funded by the Art Bridges Cohort Program, with potential for extension. This is a full-time exempt onsite position reporting to the Curator of American Art.

Key Responsibilities

The Project Manager will facilitate collaboration between the partner institutions, providing critical organizational support to share loans of art, convene partners, and organize a major exhibition of American illustration art drawn from the collections of the participating organizations.

Organizational

Serve as the point of contact for cohort-related communication between the six partner organizations and Art Bridges.

Coordinate and track progress of loans between organizations.

Support successful and timely exhibition development.

Work with registrars on timelines, loan requests, and object movement at DelArt and partner museums.

Attend installation and deinstallation of objects throughout Cohort Program.

Organize, schedule, and report on internal and external meetings, including convenings of partners.

Art & Learning

Assist partner museums in research and selection of objects from their permanent collections.

Assist with curation of object share or collaborative exhibition.

Respond to object-related questions from partner museums. This may require research and consultation with curators, registrars, and conservators at all participating museums.

Support the development and execution of interpretive strategies and programs related to loans within the cohort.

Coordinate with curatorial and education departments at home and partner museums on docent training and tours, presentations, and lectures.

Speak at department and all staff meetings about project.

Marketing

Collaborate with marketing teams and Art Bridges to develop and launch exhibition specific banners, mailers, advertisements, press kits.

Collaborate with DelArt’s marketing team to create digital content and social media posts, obtain image permissions and crediting requirements, schedule photography.

Write copy for articles, newsletters, and brochures.

Grants & Budgets

Track dates, gather materials, and coordinate grant reporting and grant writing related to the Cohort Program.

With DelArt Finance Department, track and maintain accurate budget reports and projections relating to Art Bridges and DelArt.

Coordinate with Art Bridges staff on award process and payments.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Art, Art Education, Art History, Museum Studies, or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for MA degree.

3–5 years of experience working in a museum or related setting.

Skilled in MS Windows and MS Office products and collections management systems.

Commitment to collaborative approaches to partnerships within and outside the Museum.

Superior written and interpersonal communication skills.

Attention to detail and accuracy.

Strong organizational skills including effective time management, ability to set and fulfill priorities, and demonstrated ability to work effectively in multi-tasking, fast paced environment.

Highly motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Ability to handle confidential materials with discretion.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range is $70,000-73,000. We offer a comprehensive benefits program including medical, dental, vision, 403(b) plan, paid time off, employee discounts, and free parking.
