What they Don't Teach You in Fundraising 101: Mastering the "Soft Skills" of a Fundraiser

Major gift fundraising can be fun and interesting. You may just need a new way to go about it. You need to create a relationship with a prospect that's organic, natural and fun. The "soft sell" approach to fundraising lets the donor lead the way.

If you can apply listening skills, small talk and good manners you'll take your fundraising from transactional to transformational.

During this webinar, you will learn:
  • Why social skills matter so much.
  • The kiss of death for a fundraiser.
  • What's the most important quality you need to get ahead in your career.
  • The 5 interpersonal qualities that will advance your relationships with wealthy donors.
  • The correct way to use "small talk" with donors.
  • How to build a donor's trust in you and your cause.
  • The little things that matter most to donors.

Gail Perry of Fired-Up Fundraising will lead this webinar.

Social Media Starter Kit: Facebook Apps, Ads, and More Advanced Tips (featuring Kerri Karvetski)

Even before Facebook unveiled its dramatic new Timeline format for pages, nonprofit page administrators were feeling the pinch. Nonprofits across the spectrum have seen their engagement rates - the percentage of people who like, comment and share posts - take a nosedive.

"Build it and they will come" was never a good strategy. Today it's a formula for failure.

The good news is that the new Timeline format represents opportunity for better branding and storytelling. But to produce results, you will need to work smarter. It's not difficult. But it will take time and focus.

Are you ready to kick your Facebook page up a notch? Here's what you'll learn in this webinar:

  • Discover great apps for donations, advocacy, email sign-up, videos and photos, and contests
  • Quick and simple advertising tips to help you recruit new fans
  • Master simple status update formulas that will help you get clicks, comments and shares
  • Get serious - Download a basic stat pack to get you planning and measuring progress
  • Get inspired by nonprofit Facebook success stories
  • This webinar is geared toward intermediate Facebook page administrators who have already mastered the basics - page setup, posts and website plugins.
Kerri Karvetski, owner of Company K Media, will teach this webinar.

Kivi Leroux Miller, president of Nonprofit Marketing Guide.com, will moderate your questions for Kerri.

Taming Your Editorial Calendar and Content Creation Process

Everyone is a publisher. Everyone is a broadcaster. Everyone, including your nonprofit, can be a self-made media mogul, thanks to affordable email, web hosting, and social media. It's called "content marketing" and it works. But it can also overwhelm you very quickly.

Knowing how to send bulk email, post to a blog, or set up a Facebook page is only the beginning. What about all the content that goes inside your content management system? How do you get everything working together and producing results, without driving yourself crazy?

You need to develop a content creation process that lets you communicate regularly with supporters and keep your website and other online content fresh, all while creating plenty of opportunities for conversations with your community.

Can one person or one small nonprofit do it all? Yes, if you actively manage your  content creation process and tame your editorial calendar.

During this webinar, we look at

  • Various systems for keeping track of and scheduling everything from basic editorial calendars to more robust project management systems.
  • Case studies of how different nonprofits and publishers do it
  • Setting realistic goals for yourself and prioritizing which content to create first
  • Using technology to speed up your content creation and distribution (and watching for tech pitfalls that can slow you down)
  • How to recruit other people to generate content for you (and how to be a kind but decisive editor when they do)
  • How to be a good content curator (finding and highlighting good stuff created by others)
Kivi Leroux Miller, president of EcoScribe Communications and founder of Nonprofit Marketing Guide.com, will teach this webinar.

Webinar: Introduction to Website Analytics - June 28

How many people visit your Web site every day? What are visitors doing when they get there? Which features are most popular? We'll talk through the tools and strategies you can use to get the answers to these questions. Through demos of AWStats and Google Analytics (both free tools), we'll look at what these tools can tell you about your site and what the statistics mean. The seminar closes with a look at how you can fit analytics into your day-to-day processes.

By the end of the session, you will understand:

•    What information website analytics tools can (and can’t) tell you about your website
•    The core statistics that are useful to track for your own site
•    Whether a tool like AWStats or Google Analytics will be sufficient to your needs – or if you have more advanced requirements
•    How these tools work, at a high level
•    How to integrate website analytics into your day-to-day work

Conducted by Laura Quinn
Laura is the Executive Director of Idealware.  She has more than ten years of experience in using website analytics tools to understand visitor behavior, and what’s working and not working about a website.  She’s used both AWStats and Google Analytics to analyze multiple websites.  Prior to directing Idealware’s research, writing, and training, Laura founded Alder Consulting, a firm that specialized in strategizing, designing, and building powerful internet strategies for affordable budgets.  Laura is a frequent speaker on nonprofit technology topics, and has conducted literally dozens of online and offline seminars.
