Internship Fair
INTERNSHIP FAIR
Saturday, November 20, 2010
2:30pm – 4pm
Learn more about internship opportunities available throughout the year at the Philadelphia Zoo. Representatives from the departments of Education & Conservation, Animal, Guest Relations and Marketing & Communications will share information about their internship programs. Students from all majors as well as recent graduates and career changers are welcome to attend. While we will not be conducting on-site interviews, participants are encouraged to bring their internship application for consideration.
Our career internship program is one of the many ways the Philadelphia Zoo demonstrates a commitment to its mission of conservation, education, science and recreation. Through our internships, we provide practical, high-quality experiences that help you achieve your academic and professional goals.
Online registration is free but required in advance since space is limited.
Beyond Study Guides and Assemblies: Increase the Impact of your Arts Education Programs - Nov. 17
Many arts and cultural organizations want to develop arts education programs that provide a deeper artistic experience and have more impact on the young people they serve. This discussion will share a process for you to use to examine what in-depth arts education programs could look like for your organization.
- What is the range of arts education programs that you can adapt for your organization– from discipline-based training to integration with school curriculum to promoting social justice?
- How can your education programs connect with your artistic mission?
- Who is the best audience for your education programs?
- What are the opportunities and challenges when planning in-school and/or out-of-school programs?
- How do you connect with potential partners including teaching artists, host sites, schools, and communities?
You will hear from three different organizations representing a range of arts education strategies, including Miro Dance Theatre, Philadelphia Young Playwrights, and Spiral Q Puppet Theatre.
Who Should Attend?
- Arts and cultural organizations without existing arts education programs that are interested in starting education programs
- Arts and cultural organizations that want to expand their existing arts education programs to provide more in-depth programs than they are currently providing
- Anyone wishing to better connect their arts education programs with their artistic mission and with communities
If you sign up, please show-up, so we can keep these programs free.

Two Sides of Rebranding a Nonprofit
Rebranding means more than just changing a logo or a name. It involves strategy, planning, design, writing, data, volunteers, staff, consultants, opinion, compromise, consensus, revising, inclusion and exclusion, and financial considerations. It can shake an organization upside-down - from war over usage, to the drudgery of updating every piece of communication. Now add in a parent organization or multiple locations and things get even more complicated.
Change is hard whether you are the one making the decisions or the one implementing them. Join Iris Creative's special guests to hear experiences from both sides. Learn what's working, what's a struggle and gain insight from leaders managing the process in their organizations.
Cheryl Baker, Marketing Director, Girls Scouts of Eastern PA
Kelly Hays, Communications Manager, Ronald McDonald House Philadelphia
The panel discussion will be moderated by Beth Brodovsky, president of Iris Creative Group, Inc. and will include a Q&A session, light refreshments and time for networking.
