Breakfast Club: Engaging Teens - Dec. 8
Throughout the region, arts and cultural organizations have been finding innovative ways to engage and inspire young audiences. Most of these efforts have been geared toward younger children however, while the older, teenage population tends to get ignored. Often times, teens’ interests are lumped into the same category as children, when really they should be treated as a separate and unique constituency.
Figuring out what types of programming and marketing will appeal to teens can be quite a challenge. As arts organizations then, why should we pour our efforts into serving a demographic that can be so difficult to connect with? How can we create experiences that are more enticing and engaging to teens? What are some of the keys to turning young audiences into loyal patrons now and into the future?
Join us for the next Breakfast Club as we seek answers to these questions and learn best practices from other arts organizations through four selected readings:
- Strategy for winning young audiences: pipeline vs. parallel?, by Peter Linett
- Holly Aresnault on engaging young audiences, by Holly Aresnault
- Museums and Teenagers: Care and Feeding, by Judith H. Dobrzynski
- Marketing to Young Audiences, by Leslie Ribovich
This session will provide an opportunity to discuss ways we can offer experiences that better connect with teens, that are relevant and inviting, and that even allow teens to come together as a community to help brainstorm new ideas for youth programming.
All Breakfast Club attendees are asked to read the readings in advance of the session and to come prepared to discuss them. A link to download the readings will be included in your event registration confirmation.
Breakfast Clubs are supported by The Wallace Foundation and The Philadelphia Foundation and are a program of the Cultural Alliance’s research and marketing initiative Engage 2020. Engage 2020 is sponsored by a lead grant from The Pew Charitable Trusts, with additional support from The Wallace Foundation and The Philadelphia Foundation.

Building Lasting Impressions: Building Everlasting Success
No single component is greater than making a fabulous first impression. No greater impression is the one that indicates you are confident and is all about your mission.
Scarcity is a common threat to organizations that believe in order to attract more money, we have to look and act poor. Not true in today's sophisticated market with funders wanting to know that the distribution of their money will have a purposeful impact.
During this session we'll explore questions like:
• How are you and your organization being perceived?
• Do you realize there is more than one way to make a lasting first impression?
• So if at first you don't succeed, how many ways are there for you to re-coup, save face and assure that you and your organization are poised for success?
Id your team members and their roles. What do you need to make those lasting impressions that will direct your energies to intentionally achieve your goals?
One participant from each organization is invited to take a complimentary "Branding You" assessment (value $250) and is then eligible for a personal interpretation after the teleseminar. Join Kayte Connelly CCT, Chief Solutions Officer, Best Principled Solutions LLC as she guides you through creating your own processes to realize your goals. "Under Pressure" World AIDS Day Concert
A benefit for Mazzoni Center
Wednesday, December 1 at 8:00pm
@ Caplan Studio Theatre (University of the Arts)
211 S. Broad St. Phila, PA 19110
Bill Budd, Marc Silver and The Stonethrowers, and Luke Dow come together on Wednesday, December 1 for a special performance to honor World AIDS Day and support the work of Mazzoni Center.
Headliner Bill Budd has been compared to David Gray, Moby, and Joan Armatrading, among others. Budd's songs are described as "quiet grooves, haunted musings, and joyous, danceable pop, wrapped in orchestral arrangements," while Stone's arrangements have a distinctly roots-y flavor, buoyed by his captivating vocals.
Hosted by Courtney Custer, the evening will include a warm and intimate blend of folk, jazz, bluegrass, and rock by some of Philly's most talented musicians and songwriters.
One hundred percent of proceeds will benefit Mazzoni Center's Annual Coat/Gift Drive as well as our food bank, Vivian's Cupboard, both of which provide direct support to our clients living with HIV/AIDS.
