Library Outreach and Communications Administrator

Summary of Position

The Library Outreach and Communications Administrator is responsible for planning, directing, implementing and publicizing a wide range of intellectual and academic programming, communications, community and media relations activities, exhibitions, and cultural projects that promote library services, the library’s role as a campus and community intellectual center, fundraising efforts, collection acquisition and prospect development.  Oversees and leads other staff members in the creation and execution of social media strategy, digital and print publications. In coordination with librarians, contributes to campaigns that create awareness about library resources and promote its services. This position works closely with library administration and staff, and Temple University faculty, staff, departments and offices.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions of Position

*Conceives and leads the library framework for academic and public engagement with respect to events, programs and exhibitions, including marketing and identification and development of partnerships within and outside the university. Maintains consistent engagement in the cultural field and builds contacts and relationships with potential collaborators through research, conference attendance and networking.

 

*Provides strategic planning, intellectual oversight, implementation and continual assessment of a broad range of public programming, exhibitions, cultural projects, communications and grant opportunities for the Libraries. Manages administrative specialist and student workers to execute programming logistics. Oversees editor’s production of promotional deliverables for programs, exhibitions, and projects. Reviews and edits copy and materials for grants, communications, and promotional deliverables and leads staff through editorial and production of such pieces.

 

*Oversees implementation of communications plan in consultation with the Dean of University Libraries and Director of Library External Affairs & Advancement, and launches/implements new channels of communication as appropriate.

 

*Directs the promotion of library resources and services to academic departments, faculty and students in support of library efforts to create awareness, demand for engagement with librarians and integration of the library into teaching and learning at the university.

 

*Contributes to the planning and execution of special events and invited events, including both on and offsite events for fundraising, prospect development, and collection acquisition. Oversees work of onsite vendors and volunteers and/or departmental staff at such events.

 

*Coordinates an integrated, system-wide approach to programming in support of Library’s vision to serve as campus center for intellectual, social and cultural engagement. Leads other staff members in the implementation and execution of approach.

 

*Develops, manages, and executes programming and publications annual budgets.

 

*Facilitates the creation of a content lifecycle for social media, digital, and print publications. Leads other staff members in the execution of content. Edits, reviews, and provides critical feedback on all material prepared for publications by volunteer and/or departmental staff. Leads staff through and provides ultimate oversight of editorial content and production of such pieces.

 

*Supervises Administrative Specialist and Editor.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of experience. Master’s degree in relevant discipline preferred.

Required Skills & Abilities

*Experience in planning, managing and promoting programs and events that include development, production and budget.

*Strong organization skills including experience working in a position that required managing multiple projects and adhering to deadlines.

*Experience with media relations

*Understanding of library culture

*Experience with web communication tools such as web sites, e-mail lists, blogs and other forms of social media

*Excellent oral and written communication skills

*Ability to work collaboratively with librarians, faculty, administrators and other university personnel.

*Willingness to maintain a flexible schedule that may include some evening/weekend work

*Strong supervisory skills

 

Compensation

 

Competitive salary and benefits package, including relocation allowance.  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
