Mural Arts Philadelphia is the nation’s largest public art program, dedicated to the belief that art ignites change. For over 30 years, Mural Arts has united artists and communities through a collaborative and equitable process, creating nearly 4,000 artworks that have transformed public spaces and individual lives. Mural Arts aims to empower people, stimulate dialogue, and build bridges of understanding with projects that attract artists from Philadelphia and around the world, and programs that focus on youth education, restorative justice, mental health and wellness, and public art and its preservation. Mural Arts Philadelphia is seeking a Manager for its new Mural Arts Institute. This position is a two-year grant funded position going through June 30, 2019. Continuation is contingent upon securing new resources. During this two-year period, a focus of the Manager’s work will be the Art & Environment Capacity Building Initiative. With this initiative, Mural Arts will provide capacity building and technical assistance services to three organizations in three cities. Specifically, we will invest in their ability to use public art as a catalyst for community engagement, leadership, and stewardship in advancing sustainable solutions to a range of environmental challenges and opportunities. 

The Mural Arts Institute is dedicated to knowledge-sharing, field-building, and expanding innovation within socially engaged art. Over time, the Institute will grow to include a range of activities, including workshops and symposia hosted in Philadelphia and other cities, consultancies, internships and residencies, publications, and public programs targeting artists and practitioners. We believe that by investing in the development and growth of artists, organizations, and partners working in the field of socially engaged art, we enhance our ability to ignite change through art and to learn and grow alongside those participating in our offerings.

This individual is responsible for the following, primary roles:

  • Researches regional environments in which Institute work is likely to take place
  • Works with Institute leadership on the cultivation of those prospects
  • Works with others to draft program proposals and generates contracts for program partnerships
  • Develops and monitors program budgets
  • Tracks grant and fee payments
  • Compiles relevant curricula for each program
  • Executes technical support for digital conferencing
  • Coordinates the role and presence of Mural Arts staff in providing consultations to clients
  • Coordinates the evaluation of each consultation to survey, analyze, and report on progress
  • Coordinates on-site meetings between Mural Arts staff, partners, and clients
  • Maintains relationships with clients
  • Maintains a catalogue of curricula
  • Collaborates with partners to provide high-level public symposia and other relevant public events
  • Maintains client files

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years experience in a project management, client management, operations, or other relevant role. This individual will have a track record of success creating and overseeing administrative systems and will be skilled at working collaboratively with staff and external partners.

The ideal candidate is a highly inquisitive learner with advanced interpersonal and communication skills, who is also proficient at problem solving and collaboration. This individual should have a strong interest in the issues and fields Mural Arts covers. The candidate must be highly organized self-starter who is able to work independently and achieve success in a fast-paced environment. The candidate should be committed to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion at the workplace and in his/her body of work. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
