Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA) has joined with Phillyfunguide to create a month-long celebration titled "Celebrate Arts & Aging" to offer seniors dozens of discounts on admission to cultural and arts venues; workshops and classes; and exhibits of senior art. One of the many talented artists whose work is on display is Russell O'Neal. A former policeman and a father of five, Russell O'Neil, 78, began painting about 30 years ago when he was unable to pursue his carving hobby.

He is a principal at Seiler + Drury; the firm is housed in a smart looking, quaint building on the corner of Swede and DeKalb Streets in the heart of the town.

Rally for Arts & Culture in Bucks County

On April 12th, nearly 100 people gathered for a Rally at the Bucks County Courthouse in Doylestown to raise awareness of the importance of arts and culture in the life of Bucks County. This event was organized by the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County in celebration of National Arts Advocacy Day and featured several speakers, including the Cultural Alliance's Nick Crosson who talked about the economic impact of the arts in this region.

It's beginning to look a lot like spring, and the budget season for Philadelphia is in full swing. On March 4, Mayor Nutter took to the podium in a packed City Council meeting to offer his Fiscal Year 2011 budget address amidst a still tough economy and lower-than-projected tax revenue. The Mayor's biggest objective was made clear at several points throughout the address - maintaining essential services for Philadelphia citizens without taking a slash-and-burn approach at cutting programs or increasing the city's major taxes.

Representatives from arts councils from across Canada met in Vancouver, BC November 25-27, 2009 on the occasion of the Canadian Public Arts Funders (CPAF) Annual General Meeting. During their discussions, the CPAF members were joined by Alan Brown, a leading cultural researcher, and John McInerney, the Vice-President of Marketing and Communications at the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, who presented the findings from the Cultural Alliance's recent publication Research Into Action: Pathways to New Opportunities.
