Civic Engagement Through Intergenerational Arts Programs

The arts are a powerful tool for bringing generations and cultures together. Intergenerational arts pair children, youth and young adults with older people in dance, theater, music, visual arts and literary projects. In this workshop, participants will learn about developmental needs across the aging spectrum and how to best design arts programs that meet the needs of both young and older people. Participants will also learn best practices in intergenerational arts programming in the United States. Learn the developmental theory that underlies the pairing of young and older groups for arts programming, Learn about best practice programs in various settings, Participate in exercises for working with intergenerational arts groups.  Presenters: Gay Hanna, PhD, MFA, Executive Director, National Center for Creative Aging; Susan Perlstein, Director of Education, National Center for Creative Aging.
