This spring, the Cultural Alliance is hosting two Member Mixers for our members to gather, hear thought-provoking discussions on different themes, and share resources with one another. These events are FREE for staff from any Cultural Alliance member organization.

 

Community Engagement led by Nadia Malik (Mural Arts Philadelphia)

Thursday, March 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at REC Philly (901 Market St Suite #2120, Fashion District)

Nadia Malik is the director of the Porch Light Program, a partnership with the city’s Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services, at Mural Arts Philadelphia. She completed masters degrees in Social Work and Nonprofit Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. Previously, she worked as a journalist in the suburbs of Chicago and in the development and communications departments of several nonprofits. The Porch Light Program offers Nadia an opportunity to combine her love of art and writing with her passion for community work, particularly in the arena of mental health. The department’s work focuses on refugee and immigrant communities, unhoused participants, those affected by substance use and others impacted by trauma. Porch Light offers participants opportunities to use artistic outlets to find creative solutions to systemic concerns. Through Mural Arts, Nadia has also had an opportunity to speak about the innovative programs and partnerships in Porch Light at SXSW and in a TedX talk.

Marketing and Storytelling led by Sarah Maiellano (Broad Street Communications)

Thursday, April 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Glen Foerd (5001 Grant Avenue)

Equal parts creative and entrepreneurial, Broad Street Communications founder Sarah Maiellano’s superpower is discovering and telling stories. Sarah is an award-winning Philadelphia-based Public Relations professional and independent journalist. She serves Philadelphia area arts and culture institutions, with a focus on museums, and regional non-profits. Over the last 15 years, she has generated more than 3,000 news stories about her clients. She’s a past board member of the Philadelphia Public Relations Association and is a frequent speaker at events and conferences. As a freelance journalist, Sarah covers travel and food for regional and national outlets, including USA Today and Philadelphia Magazine.
