Guide to help Philadelphians elect an “Arts Mayor for Philadelphia” with information about how Mayoral Candidates would integrate arts and culture policies into their administrations
May 9, 2023 (Philadelphia) –The Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance released its PHL Arts & Culture Voter Guide to help arts-minded voters elect an “Arts Mayor for Philadelphia.” Made possible by funding from the Every Voice, Every Vote project through the Lenfest Institute for Journalism, the PHL Arts & Culture Voter Guide provides voters with information on how candidates for the 100th Mayor of Philadelphia have responded to questions about the arts and culture industry. The full guide is available online and an abridged version will be printed in English and Spanish and distributed to voters.
“Arts and culture cannot be an afterthought or low on the list of priorities for the City of Philadelphia’s next Mayor,” said Patricia Wilson Aden, President & CEO, Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance. “This Voter Guide offers the arts and culture community a resource before heading into the primaries on May 16 and election on November 7. Philadelphia deserves an Arts Mayor who will see our $3.4 billion industry as an essential economic driver, and a creative problem solver that addresses some of our city’s most challenging social issues.”
The PHL Arts & Culture Voter Guide is part of The Arts Voter Initiative, which serves to connect Philadelphia mayoral candidates with the diverse and eclectic arts community, encourage candidates to develop thoughtfully-conceived arts policies, and finally, to activate and inform arts-focused Philadelphians in the election process. The Voter Guide follows the Cultural Alliance’s Mayoral Policy Platform as a resource and tool for Philadelphia’s arts and culture industry. Advocating that the arts matter in Philadelphia and serve as a driving force in voter turnout, the Cultural Alliance’s policy platform is rooted in the fundamental belief that arts and culture in Philadelphia is an undervalued and underleveraged asset that deserves greater public investment.
The Guide is available for download at philaculture.org/voterguide. Voters can also download the Cultural Alliance’s Mayoral Policy Platform here.
