Annual Dining Out for Life

April 24, 2014 - 6:00pm

Anyone can be a superhero in the fight against HIV/AIDS — no cape or tights
necessary, just an appetite. That’s the message in the latest commercial for Dining Out for Life, which returns for the
24th year on Thursday, April 24.

More than 150 restaurants and food trucks will again participate across the Delaware Valley, and each will donate 33
percent of its sales that day to local HIV/AIDS service organizations. The event raises nearly a quarter of a million dollars each year, which is essential in a region with four times as many people infected with HIV/AIDS than the national
average.

The list of locations is now available as is the new commercial starring animated versions of Ted Allen, Pam Grier, Daisy
Martinez and Mondo Guerra. The fours are international spokespeople for Dining Out for Life, which began in Philadelphia more than two decades ago and has since grown to include 60 cities across North America.
Created by Shooters Post & Transfer, Inc., the commercials were inspired by retro comic books and everyday people-turned-superheroes - a key message for Dining Out for Life, according to Kevin Burns, executive director of ActionAIDS.

“The beauty of this event is how easy it is for everyone to get involved. It doesn’t take much to make a huge difference
- anyone who has a meal at a participating restaurant on April 24 is a hero to the thousands of people living with AIDS
in our communities,” said Burns, whose organization is leading the local effort.

The monies raised on April 24 in Philadelphia, southern New Jersey and Delaware will be invested through local nonprofits
to fund care, prevention, education, testing, counseling and other essential HIV/AIDS services across the region. In
addition to ActionAIDS, beneficiaries include AIDS Delaware, Camden Area Health Education Center, Family & Community Service of Delaware County and Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
