Meet an Alliancer: Hanifah Jones

Ever wondered what it’s like to work at the Cultural Alliance? We’ll introduce you to members of our staff! This month the spotlight is on Hanifah Jones, our social media assistant!

Job Title: Social Media Assistant

Job Responsibilities: Assisting the strategic communications manager.

Degrees/certificates: B.A. in Digital Multimedia Journalism from Susquehanna University

Past experience working in arts and culture: My experience working in arts and culture actually began with the GPCA! During high school I was a member of the STAMP Teen Council. I worked in the costume shop for my university’s theater department and occasionally worked backstage during productions. After graduation I briefly worked at a creative experience agency that worked with various museums across the country.

Favorite thing about working at the Cultural Alliance (so far): I really enjoy learning about the different cultural events going on in the city.

Favorite cultural institutions/attractions/events: Growing up in Philly, I always loved the Franklin Institute. I have so many wonderful memories of different exhibits and learning about science in a fun, hands-on way.

A fun fact about yourself: I once recorded an audio tour for the Philadelphia Zoo!

The organization was founded by a team of Indigenous women who are dedicated to honoring Native arts and cultures as a means to understanding Indigenous peoples, the history of (what is now called) the United States, and who we all are as American people today.     The Brandywine River Museum of Art features a distinguished collection of nineteenth- and twentieth-century American art, housed in a renovated nineteenth-century gristmill with a dramatic steel and glass addition that overlooks the bucolic Brandywine River. The Museum’s collection is comprised of over 4,000 works, encompassing a cross-section of American art. Renowned for its holdings of the Wyeth family of artists, the Museum features galleries dedicated to the work of N. C., Andrew and Jamie Wyeth. The Museum’s outstanding Heritage Collection is a cross section of American art, with a special focus on artistic practice in the Brandywine valley. Nineteenth- and twentieth-century landscape paintings testify to the beauty which drew well-known artists to the area. Important portraits, still life paintings and notable holdings in American illustration add diversity and breadth to this unique collection. A robust program of special exhibitions places the Museum’s collection into the broader contexts of American art.
