Coming This Fall: The Inaugural Delco Arts Week!

National Arts Advocacy Day on March 5 had a special meaning this year for our members and friends in Delaware County: it was the day that plans for this fall’s first-ever Delco Arts Week were announced at a special reception and press briefing at the Community Arts Center in Wallingford.

U.S. Representative Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-5), whose district includes all of Delaware County, spoke at the press briefing and highlighted the many positive economic and community benefits that arts and culture brings to the county.

Delco Arts Week (September 21-28, 2019) is a partnership between the Delaware County Arts Consortium and the Cultural Alliance. Sponsored by the Foundation for Delaware County and Destination Delco, the week will feature dozens of cultural events and activities for audiences of every age, all designed to showcase the diverse array of cultural assets available to Delaware County residents and visitors. The week will be supported with a comprehensive marketing and promotional campaign, which will include visibility on Phillyfunguide and Funsavers.

The Cultural Alliance has provided technical assistance and support to the Delaware County Arts Consortium since its inception in 2009. DCAC is a collaborative of cultural organizations working to advance the economic vitality of the nonprofit arts and culture community and promote the value of cultural resources to the local community.

    People travel from as far away as Gambia and Taiwan to visit The Village’s Ile Ife Park, the crown jewel of its creative campus comprising art parks, murals, and sculptures created over 36 years by the hands and imaginations of artists and neighbors.   • Member Spotlight

    Jazz Bridge Project assists Jazz and Blues musicians living in the Greater Philadelphia Metro area who face financial, health, housing and similar crises.  A registered 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, they also support musicians by providing paid performance opportunities through their live neighborhood concerts and special event presentations. Their concerts celebrate the Philadelphia Jazz & Blues tradition and build cultural awareness throughout the region. As a service organization in the arts and culture community, they are uniquely positioned to address the suffering resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite new challenges, they remain committed to assisting Jazz and Blues artists of all ages and backgrounds. Read more in our blog!

  • September 2020 DEI Update

    This summer, the Cultural Alliance has continued to follow through on our recommitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) work made in our Arts & Culture for Racial Justice statement in early June. On July 13 and 27, the Cultural Alliance hosted two happy hour events for Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) members of the arts and culture community in Greater Philadelphia. In August, we facilitated an Anti-Racism Conversation for White Arts Administrators to begin the individual and internal work required to dismantle systemic racism in our sector.

    For 26 years, Asian Arts Initiative has served as an important community anchor providing artists and community members both the physical and creative space to explore complex and topical issues through art. Since their founding in 1993 to address rising racial tensions following the wake of the Rodney King trial verdict and the Los Angeles uprisings, Asian Arts Initiative continues to service their mission to create community through the power of art. Over the years, they have experienced and witnessed the transformative power of art to not only bring diverse groups together, but to bring healing, dialogue, and inspire action towards a more just and equitable society. Today, Asian Arts Initiative provides a wide array of programming to serve artists, youth, and our broader community of Asian/Americans to advance racial equity using art as the driving force of change.
