“GroundSwell is all about community and highlighting the people, places and organizations improving quality of life in Greater Philly, so what better place to gather than a vacant lot that's been transformed into a beautiful city park and Beer Garden?” says Nancy DeLucia, Director of Policy & Community Engagement for the Cultural Alliance, adding, “Plus, the root beer is outstanding.”

Background:
GroundSwell is a grassroots movement to make the Philadelphia region a better place to live, work and play. Powered by the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, GroundSwell unites the residents and organizations that are leveraging arts and culture, libraries, parks and public space to enhance the quality of life in our region. Since launching in January 2013, GroundSwell has successfully completed a musical instrument donation drive for Musicopia; a petition campaign to increase the budget for the Philadelphia Cultural Fund; a book donation drive for Philadelphia READS in partnership with the Penn Museum; a park clean-up in partnership with the Friends of Clark Park for LOVE Your Park Spring Service Day; and a direct action and online advocacy campaign in partnership with Public Citizens for Children and Youth (PCCY) encouraging City Council and State legislators to save art & music programs and restore funding to public schools.
