In Response to the Killing of Walter Wallace, Jr.
In the aftermath of the killing of Walter Wallace, Jr., the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance continues to state unequivocally that Black Lives Matter. Our hearts go out to his family and in this deeply painful moment for our City, we stand with BIPOC voices advocating for their rights, their dignity and their lives.
We add our voice to the citywide call for justice for Mr. Wallace and recognize that continued work is needed to break down barriers of systemic racism that perpetuate injustice for Black and Brown lives.
The Cultural Alliance also calls for greater understanding and compassion towards those affected by mental illness. Arts and culture work every day in our neighborhoods and communities to address key societal issues, including mental health. We also recognize arts and culture as a way to bridge differences and bring about healing. As we as a community pursue healing and solutions, the Alliance champions arts and culture as an integral part of this process.
If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, you can call 1-800-662-HELP (4357) or text 74171 or visit Healthy Minds Philly for more resources.
