Teen Lounge Teaching Artist

Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial

Teen Lounge at Fleisher Art Memorial is accepting project proposals from teaching artists for paid residencies! Teen Lounge is a free, drop-in afterschool arts program providing youth ages 13-19 with opportunities to meet and work with working Philly artists, and collaborate with other young creators to build program curriculum and community.

In light of COVID-19, all Teen Lounge programming has been moved to Zoom - we're seeking up to six teaching artists to share their knowledge, creativity and inspiration in this new virtual realm.

Your proposal should offer young people an exciting opportunity to explore a theme of relevance to their age group, or experiment with materials they can access easily at home. Please also keep in mind that many of our students are coping with a lot of change and uncertainty right now - so upholding a flexible, low-stress and uplifting environment for our youth is key! Providing multiple levels of engagement for teens (like actively participating in the project, just watching, or following written instructions on their own time) will make a strong proposal.

For this round of proposals, the teens have identified Arts Activism and Career/Business Building in the Arts as their main areas of interest - these are suggestions, not requirements!

The submission deadline is Saturday, July 4 for projects in July-August. After submitting a proposal, artists are invited to attend a mandatory proposal review fair scheduled for Tuesday, July 7, 3:00-5:00 pm to meet Teen Lounge students and give a 5-minute presentation on their idea. Students will then vote to select which projects to run for the Summer term. Students will be selecting 6 visiting artists, who are compensated at $31/hr for a commitment of 14 hrs total.

Workshops will be held on Zoom, once a week for three consecutive weeks, on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays from 3:00 to 5:00pm. Up to 10 students attend our Zoom calls daily, from a variety of levels in art making experience and access to materials -- due to the drop-in structure of the program, the class group can vary from session to session. Please keep this in mind when designing your workshop!
