The Clay Studio

The Claymobile Teaching Artist is responsible for lesson planning and teaching, or co-

teaching, during each Claymobile session for which they are scheduled. Residencies typically are 6 to 12 weeks in length. Claymobile sessions take place at schools, community centers, social service agencies, and older adult centers. Before the session, the Teaching Artist must check the itinerary, contact the site contact or classroom teacher, and create the curriculum.  They are also responsible for gathering all supplies for each session and driving our Claymobile vans to and from the site. When Teaching Artists are not co-teaching, they are responsible

for leading a Claymobile Teaching Assistant and coordinating arrival time and the lesson schedule with each assistant. After each Claymobile session, the Teaching Artist and Assistant return and clean all supplies and organize all the work created by the Claymobile participants during that particular session.

A qualified candidate will be comfortable teaching students of all ages from a variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. They will be knowledgeable in the arts and have a strong interest in education. Previous teaching experience, especially with clay, is preferred.
