Mural Arts Philadelphia (MAP) is the nation’s largest public art program, dedicated to the belief that art ignites change.  It is a public private partnership with the City of Philadelphia. For over several decades, MAP has united artists and communities through a collaborative and equitable process, creating nearly 4,000 artworks that have transformed public spaces and individual lives. Mural Arts aims to empower people, stimulate dialogue, and build bridges of understanding with projects that attract artists from Philadelphia and around the world, and programs that focus on youth education, restorative justice, mental health and wellness, and public art and its preservation.

Mural Arts Philadelphia is currently seeking an individual to join our staff as the Manager of Project Administration (PA). The Manager of Project Administration supports and advances the organization’s overall body of work and works closely with MAP leadership to support overall project planning and operations, including information management systems that support effective communication, including collections management and restoration . It is a position that requires systems thinking, strong writing skills, excellent interpersonal skills, excellent planning skills and the ability to effectively prioritize competing demands of one’s time.

The areas of work that this position is involved in include:  

Work Plan Management

  • Maintain eight project managers’ work plans
  • Meet with project managers monthly to receive project status updates and ensure the information in their work plans is current and shared with appropriate staff
  • Ensure senior leadership and other staff is able to access work plans, troubleshooting when necessary Facilitate periodic project planning meetings with senior leadership and ensure they are equipped with the information necessary to make decisions; take notes in meeting and follow-up with attendees and other staff afterward as necessary
  • With Executive Director and Director of Operations complete budgets for potential projects.
  • Maintain list of planned uses for organization’s allocated city funding. Recommend adjustments to Executive Director and CFO as necessary to ensure projects are properly resourced.


Project Manager - Hiring and Training

  • Lead the hiring process for new project managers, including creating and posting job descriptions, reviewing applicants with hiring committee, and scheduling and facilitating interviews
  • Create and manage the on boarding schedule for new project managers
  • Train new full-time and temporary project managers in MAP processes and protocols and provide recurring training to current staff
  • Serve as the MAP staff point person for temporary and outside project managers; meet regularly with them and ensure they are on schedule and properly resourced, connecting them with additional MAP staff when appropriate
  • Plan and co-lead monthly project manager meetings with COO


Tools, Processes, and Contracts

  • Create, update, and organize project management tools and processes; recommend changes to COO and other department heads when necessary; train staff on new and updated processes
  • Maintain all MAP contract templates; assist all staff with the proper use of contracts; work with COO and legal counsel to create new templates when necessary
  • Create, monitor, and in some cases facilitate processes necessary for mural operations, such as lift training, design review, mural paint-outs, and artists’ mailing list
  • Participate in the development of new information databases for both internal and external use.
