Job Title: Manager of Children and Youth Education

Salary Range: $45,000 – $55,000 

 

POSITION SUMMARY  

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Manager of Children and Youth Programs to join our team and oversee the planning, implementation, and growth for Fleisher’s onsite youth arts education offerings. This role requires a creative leader who is not only enthusiastic about arts education, but also dedicated to creating an inclusive, fun, and supportive environment for students 5 – 19 years old to learn and grow. 

Under the direction of the Director of Education and with your colleagues in the Education, the Manager of Children and Youth Programs to craft, execute, and manage Fleisher’s programming for children and youth consistent with the goals and objectives outlined in Fleisher’s strategic plan. Programs include our longstanding Young Artist Program which provides low cost classes for students 5-18 years old, Teen Lounge our school year drop-in program for teens, Summer Camp, and other organizational initiatives that push our mission of access forward. The ideal candidate will develop and be held accountable for an annual program budget, recruit, hire, evaluate, and manage faculty and provide support to them as they design curricula and teach art courses, and develop outreach strategies to increase participation in our programs, and ensure their experience at Fleisher is positive and rewarding. Additional duties include program research, attendance at various board and staff meetings, and other duties as assigned. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

General Administrative Duties: 

  • Represent Fleisher as one of the public faces of its education programs, serving as key point person for families looking for opportunities to engage youth art education opportunities at Fleisher.  
  • Recruit, hire, train, evaluate, and supervise program support staff. Schedule and document annual evaluations and making recommendations for staffing improvements. 
  • Develop budget(s) annually with the Director of Education. 
  • Oversee documentation and evaluation of the program in collaboration with the Development team. 
  • Collaborated with Education Team and other departments to forward Fleisher’s mission and find evolving and creative ways to serve a diverse public audience.  

 

Manage and Execute Young Artist Program:  

  • Plan Fall, Winter, and Spring terms, considering class sizes, room availability, and feedback from facilities staff, faculty, and students. 
  • Work with the Education Coordinator to oversee the ordering of supplies for individual classes and program-wide needs. 
  • Support Registrar with planning and executing registration for the upcoming term, including updating forms, merging with attendance data, and distributing to students. 
  • Colloborate with the Manager of Community Partnership in the Arts on outreach as well as improve and administer priority registration with a focus on access.

Manage and Execute Summer Camp and Summer Youth Workshops: 

  • Plan summer term, including staffing, budget, and class descriptions, taking into account past programming successes, student and faculty feedback, and room availability 
  • Coordinate the collection of student information, disseminating appropriate information as needed to faculty and staff, and all communications between families and Fleisher. 
  • Manage and Execute Teen Lounge Activities (Sept-June) 
  • Develop, implement, and guide all facets of the Teen Lounge.  
  • Schedule all Teen Lounge workshops and support all visiting teaching artists scheduling facilities and securing supplies for workshop days.  
  • Create new leadership opportunities for teens; encourage initiative in forming teen-led workshops, events, and collaborations.

Perform Administrative Teen Lounge Duties: 

  • Monitor and record weekly attendance of Teen Lounge participants; ensure accurate reporting of program attendance and periodically prepare reports of Teen Lounge activities as required. Prepare student intake forms for new students. 
  • Prepare monthly Teen Lounge activities calendar to be shared in the lounge and on the website. 
  • Promote visiting artist RFP; collect and process applications for teen Proposal Review. 
  • Schedule in-person “Proposal Review Fair” when artists present their workshop proposal to teens; mediate teen voting/selection process following fair; schedule visiting artists and maintain workshop calendar. 
  • Plan and implement an outreach and recruitment strategy to raise awareness of the program with teens and teaching artists. 
  • Coordinate program-wide teen special events 
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate the annual spring break museum field trip.   
  • Recruit, interview, and help select teen internship students and provide orientation and regular check in with summer teen interns. 

Other Duties: 

  • Submit bi-weekly payroll to Human Resources for all youth programs mentioned above. 
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate the annual Children and Youth Open house in conjunction with the Manager of Community Partnerships and Special Events Manager. 
  • Working with the Donor Engagement Officer, distribute Ella King Torrey applications to all eligible youth students, promote participation, organize communication and promotion of the winner, and communicate with all entrants. 
  • Work with Communications Director to market programs and to capture stories that illustrate the impact of programs. When necessary, review, and revise program content and faculty information for print, web, and social media. 
  • Work with Development Director on providing information as required for grant applications. 

 

REQUIRED/PREFERRED RELATED EXPERIENCE:   

  • 3-5 years of experience in arts administration, art education, child development, or related field. 
  • At least two years of work experience with youth in an in-school and/or out-of-school time art education setting, including development of curriculum and lesson plans.  
  • Demonstrated small- and large-scale project development and management experience. 
  • Additional language skills a plus. A significant percentage (~50%) of Fleisher’s Children and Youth students and families speak Spanish, Cantonese, or Mandarin Chinese.

  • PA State Police Criminal Record Check  
  • PA Child Abuse History 
  • FBI background check 
  • Act 126 Mandated Reporter Training Certificate 

 
Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout school and classrooms. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds at a time. 
  • Must be able to kneel, sit, stand, crawl, push, and pull to assist and teach children throughout the day. 
  • Prolonged periods sitting and working on computer to complete necessary paperwork.
