Delaware Museum of Natural History

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Guest Experience Manager, the Guest Experience Associate assists with the day-to-day operation of the Guest Experience Department and leads a variety of educational, science-based programs for group tours.

Essential Functions

Guest Experience Operations:

Uphold the highest quality of customer service to enhance the overall visitor experience by greeting and orienting visitors, processing admissions, education, driving membership and Museum Store sales, as well as any other customer service focused initiative

Be conversant in the Museum’s mission, exhibits, programs and events to enhance the visitor experience

Execute opportunities to share information with visitors including providing impromptu tours, pop-up science programs, and other informal education initiatives

Assist with the logistics of programs and compliance with safety practices when needed

Proficient knowledge of the point of sale system

Responsible for regular walk-throughs to ensure public areas, including outside patio and picnic areas, are safe, presentable, functioning, and welcoming to visitors and resolve issues

As needed complete incident reports for visitor or staff injury or illness and/or contact emergency services

Assist with Museum’s guest reception. All appointments, telephone calls, deliveries are to be delegated correctly, respectfully and timely  

Education/Public Programming:

Support Education by leading educational, science-based programs and tours in an engaging, interactive, inquiry-based format both on and off-site

Assist Coordinators with assessment, enhancement and evaluation to improve educational tour, programs and event content

When needed, greet Museum program participants and complete the registration process

Model positive, educational, creative and respectful interactions with children and their caregivers

Adapt tour and program content and delivery for groups with special needs

Monitor groups’ activities to ensure compliance with Museum contracts and safety practices

Assist Coordinators with assessment, enhancement and evaluation to improve educational programs and events

Administration:

Participate in regular meetings with Coordinators and Guest Experience Manager to analyze, evaluate and improve administrative procedures to streamline processes and create efficiencies 

Participate in relevant training sessions and meetings

Business Operations:

Assist the Guest Experience Lead and/or Program Associate obtain and record daily attendance numbers for general admission, programs, events, rentals, etc.  Work with Business Operations to ensure proper and timely documentation

Ensure that cash handling, transaction and record keeping procedures are followed

Minimum Qualifications:

BA/BS in education, science, communications or a natural history-related field preferred

College juniors or seniors working towards a degree considered

Customer service experience with a point of sale system, preferably in a museum setting

Knowledge of or interest in natural history, science and/or museums

Excellent communication skills, including ability to relate to different age groups and educational levels

Ability to stand and/or walk 75% - 80% of each work shift

Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 20 lbs.

First aid, CPR and AED certified or willingness to become certified

Schedule:

This is a part-time position with variable hours based on Education/Public Programming and Guest Experience needs.  Includes overnights, weekend and holiday hours

Education Level: 
• BA/BS in education, science, communications or a natural history-related field preferred • College juniors or seniors working towards a degree considered
