Job Description

Philadelphia Contemporary  is seeking a part-time freelance grant writer to join our dynamic and creative team.  The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to write coherent, organized and compelling proposals.  The grant writer is expected to work both independently and collaboratively with the development and artist curatorial team to ensure the grant narrative and supporting information are accurate, concise and impactful.

Philadelphia Contemporary was founded in 2016 to serve as a platform for contemporary art in all of its dynamic forms - visual, performance, spoken word, video and electronic, installation, mixed media, and those yet to be encountered. We thrive through a dynamic and sustainable model of collaboration and partnership. Philadelphia Contemporary aims to build a civically engaged institution with a mission to create world-class exhibitions, projects, and presentations for diverse audiences.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage all activities required to prepare, write, and submit Letters of Intent (LOI) or full grant proposals for foundation, corporate and government grantors, adhering to grant requirements and guidelines
  • Work with staff to interpret grant guidelines, gather materials and research information necessary for a strong proposal. 
  • Work with curatorial program staff to collect project results and outcomes, write and submit narrative reports to include in the interim and final report of awarded grants. 
  • Research, identify and vet potential foundation and corporate funding opportunities that align with Philadelphia Contemporary’s mission and programs.
  • Collaborate with key program staff to identify funding gaps and to ensure sufficient understanding of those programs to develop compelling cases for support.
  • Maintain existing grants calendar. 
  • As needed and requested by the manager, attend weekly staff meetings and provide grant status and updates.

 

Key Qualifications:

  • A minimum of three years’ experience with grant research, writing and submission.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Deadline-driven and ability to start and finish projects within timeline constraints
  • Ability to attend to detail-oriented tasks while maintaining understanding of big picture.
  • Proficient with Google Suite 
  • Ability to respond effectively to feedback, while also being able to work with minimal supervision when necessary
  • Experience working with non-profit organizations is a plus

 

This is a part-time freelance position with salary range based on qualifications and experience

Education Level: 
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, or equivalent experience
