Bucks County Audubon Society at Honey Hollow’s mission is to educate and engage children and adults of the greater Bucks County region about the natural world, with an emphasis on conservation and stewardship, including the protection of birds, wildlife and habitats.

Each year Bucks Audubon serves 11,000 people through environmental, science and nature programs on our nature preserve and throughout the community, providing opportunities for our members and community to hike, birdwatch, and connect with nature. With a staff of four and 50+ dedicated and passionate volunteers, Bucks Audubon works to inspire everyone to become good stewards of the Earth

Executive Director, Bucks County Audubon Society (BCAS)

BCAS is looking for a highly motivated, visionary, and experienced leader to further enhance its programs, property and position as a Bucks County environmental destination.  

The successful candidate will have a strong managerial background, fundraising and grant writing experience, and a commitment to the environment and education.  The position is full-time and on-site; the salary range is $55,000 to $65,000.

The Executive Director will:

  • Provide dynamic leadership and seek new opportunities for growing and funding the organization; 
  • Guide and coordinate the direction of the organization’s programs and activities; 
  • Inspire staff and volunteers to fulfill the mission of BCAS; 
  • Promote BCAS to the community at large and other environmental initiatives and entities.  
  • Foster a culture of equity,diversity, inclusion, belonging, and respect in all BCAS activities and programs
  • Responsibilities include interaction with the Board of Directors regarding staff positions, resources and funding requirements; securing grants and donations, and guiding and serving on BCAS committees. The Executive Director works collaboratively with and reports to the Board of Directors.

Position Duties


  • Hire, supervise and evaluate staff.  Delegate and monitor responsibilities for BCAS programs.  
  • Serve as liaison between staff and the Board of Directors, appoint staff members to BCAS Board committees, and assure implementation of BCAS policies and procedures.
  • Manage and supervise all education programs.  Work with staff and the Education Committee to review, develop and implement BCAS existing programs.  Recommend change, improvement and modernization of programs.
  • Work with the Board of Directors to implement and update the BCAS strategic plan.


Fundraising and Development

  • Manage the organization’s annual budget to ensure that financial targets are met. 
  • Identify, coordinate and implement funding for BCAS through grants and donations; ensure that grants are used as committed to grantors.
  • Establish and maintain contacts with grantors, foundations, individual donors and public officials who facilitate funding opportunities.
  • Seek to identify and build significant relationships with donors.
  • Work with staff and volunteers to implement special fund-raising events.

Education Programs

  • Promote BCAS as a leader in habitat protection, environmental education, and sustainable local agriculture.
  • Work with BCAS Educators and the Education Committee to direct the focus and content of education programs and support the delivery of those programs.
  • Work with staff and volunteers to provide high-quality, science-based education programs for all ages and groups, both on-site and throughout the community.


  • Manage the BCAS property in an ecologically sound manner to provide and augment natural habitats; manage routine maintenance activities for all buildings, facilities and grounds and coordinate education programs with Property Committee.
  • Oversee the implementation of the facilities plan to assure full and appropriate use of the site.

Public Relations

  • Promote positive public relations with BCAS members, the Bucks County community at large, other non-profit environmental organizations, and state and local government agencies.
  • Serve as the visible liaison and goodwill ambassador to other environmental and educational organizations.
  • Articulate the history of BCAS and the Honey Hollow Watershed (a National Historic Landmark): work to preserve it and expand its role in environmental initiatives.


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; master’s degree a plus
  • 3-5 years of administrative and managerial experience; non-profit experience desirable
  • Fund development experience, ideally through both grants and individual giving
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with SalesForce, Quickbooks, Office 365 and Zoom preferred
  • Teaching experience desirable
  • Demonstrated flexibility and creativity
  • Passion for the natural world
  • A successful candidate must pass the following background checks: 
    • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance
    • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Clearance
    • Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal History Clearance

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to stand for extended periods of time and must be able to work outdoors occasionally during the summer heat and humidity. The employee will also be expected to sit and perform extensive keyboard work. The employee is occasionally required to bend, squat, run or climb as part of duties.
