Npage Studio/Lostine located in East Falls is looking for a ceramic artisan with experience in slip casting, hand building and some mold making. The position we are looking to fill will require a motivated individual to assist in a production studio environment. Prior production experience is necessary. An excellent attitude, enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and troubleshoot are also essential. The candidate should have solid communication skills and be capable of working on multiple projects at once.
The ceramics studio assistant will be responsible for producing ceramic wares for Npage Studio, Lostine and RTO Lighting. The main responsibilities will include but are not limited to casting, mold making, handbuilding, cleaning wares, glazing, reclaiming clay, using the spray booth as well as hand painting, seeing that orders are completed in a timely manner and keeping track of inventory and supplies. They will work on special projects as they arise as well as participate in prototyping. They will work with the studio team and all employees within the area to ensure safe, effective and advanced practices. They will be responsible as part of the team for the routine maintenance of the ceramics studio, including the kilns, main studio, casting, and glaze areas, ensuring that all equipment functions effectively and safely. Duties + Responsibilities
• Ensure all tools and equipment are operating with the highest level of functionality and safety, while making repairs as necessary
• Work with the design team to develop best practices for product development.
• Inventory and make necessary recommendations of equipment, tools, and materials to ensure the studio is fully equipped; manage resources and supplies
• Organization of the physical studio and operation of equipment
• Conduct research to identify improvements that advance capabilities of fabrication
• Demonstrate knowledge of materials and techniques used in ceramics processes and practices
• Knowledge of ceramics equipment operation and maintenance; material forming; and firing methods
• Demonstrate knowledge of technical and conceptual developments in the field of ceramic art and design
• Demonstrate comprehension of ceramic materials, glaze and clay body formulation
• Demonstrate knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety regulations and best practices common in art and design production, especially pertaining to the safe use, handling, and management of a diversity of chemicals and equipment with varying levels of hazard
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
• Strong listening and organizational skills, ability to communicate professionally both orally and in writing with careful attention to detail
• Knowledge of Asana, Google Suite, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator a plus
• Demonstrate related work experience
• Demonstrate knowledge of the safe operation and maintenance of ceramic processes and equipment
• Ability to lift 50 lbs
