Back and Song Site Staff

Philadelphia Contemporary

DURATION: October 4, 2019 (opening celebration)—October 27, 2019

Saturdays 11-6 PM and Sundays 12-7 PM

SCOPE:

Philadelphia Contemporary seeks event staff for the upcoming program Back and Song, a meditative four-channel film and art installation by filmmakers Elissa Blount Moorhead and Bradford Young presented in the Chapel at Girard College. The kaleidoscopic installation, co-produced by Philadelphia Contemporary and Thomas Jefferson University, reflects on the manner in which health and wellness are part and parcel of the American black experience from cradle to grave. Back and Song considers the labor and care provided by generations of black healers--doctors, nurses, midwives, morticians, therapists, and health aides--and their histories of contribution to, and resistance of, the flawed and discriminatory structures of Western medicine.

Back and Song event staff will help to register, guide, inform and monitor visitors as they navigate the Girard College campus and view the art installation within the Chapel.
