Assistant House Manager

Association for the Colonial Theatre

ROLE:  The Assistant House Manager position is part-time (15-20 hours per week), with the potential to evolve into a greater role based on the Colonial’s needs and your aptitudes and interests.

The Assistant House Manager supervises day-to-day operations involving concession sales, box office functions and film projection equipment.   Management of concession sales requires a knowledge of, or willingness to quickly learn about, Pennsylvania liquor laws.  The projection equipment includes both digital technologies and 35mm projection.

Candidates must have strong money handling skills since a daily accounting for box office and concession sales is required.  Candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, and must be able to lift, carry and move concession supplies, tables and chairs and be comfortable with a ladder.

In addition, candidates must possess a welcoming and engaging personality to be able to foster and maintain excellent relationships with theatre members, donors, outside renters, co-workers and the general public.  Experience with sound equipment and lighting systems and/or an interest in theatrical technical support are definite pluses.

The Assistant House Manager reports to the Front of House Manager and General Manager.

WHO WE ARE: The Association for the Colonial Theatre (“ACT”) is a non-profit organization which owns and operates two historic buildings in downtown Phoenixville that function as a single venue containing three theatres – the original, 1902 theatre with 650 seats and two, smaller state-of-the-art theatres in the adjacent 1925 Bank of Phoenixville building.  Programming includes first-run, independent, foreign, documentary and classic films, young audience shows, concerts and community events.

Phoenixville is a post-industrial, steel town named one of the ‘Ten Hottest Suburban Philadelphia towns’ by Philadelphia Magazine (2017) and recently featured by Forbes Magazine (2019) for its burgeoning craft beer scene. Phoenixville is home to 17,000 residents and growing and is located in northern Chester County, approximately 45 minutes from Center City Philadelphia. In the last three years, Phoenixville has enjoyed an influx of new residents and businesses, spurred by the construction of hundreds of apartments and the addition of breweries, restaurants and shops in the theatre’s immediate vicinity.
