Managing DirectorPhiladelphia Sinfonia Association Youth Orchestra Program About Our Organization: Philadelphia Sinfonia serves 150 young instrumentalists, ranging from exceptional elementary through college level students, who are enrolled in one or more of its four ensembles. The program consists of a beginning string orchestra, two full symphonic orchestras and a string chamber orchestra. Now in its 28th season, the orchestra has been featured at important local events, performed benefit concerts, and frequently collaborates with local and internationally recognized soloists, composers and ensembles. Our Mission Philadelphia Sinfonia supports the artistic growth of young musicians by providing a high-level ensemble experience in a supportive, educational environment. We believe that the pursuit of excellence requires performers with integrity working together toward a common goal. Thus, our mission is three-fold: to provide ensemble opportunities for young musicians, to achieve the highest level of artistic advancement, and to educate young people broadly to be strong citizens and leaders as well as responsible musicians. We recruit from a demographically diverse student population to provide an opportunity to anyone who musically qualifies and to enrich the experience of all members of the organization. Position Summary: The Managing Director of Philadelphia Sinfonia is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, including program administration and finance, and supporting the Board of Directors and its committees. These responsibilities are carried out collaboratively with the Music Director, Program Manager, and Board of Directors. The Managing Director works closely with staff, interns, students and parents. This position reports to the Board of Directors. Core Responsibilities: ● Hire and supervise administrative staff and interns; ● Oversee and manage the Organization's financial operations, including budgeting, financial planning, and reporting● Collaborate with staff to prepare and deliver concerts and events ● Oversee the development and distribution of all organizational publications, such as concert programs and communications ● Establish and implement a successful recruitment strategy with Music Director and board; ● Build partnerships and expand community engagement ● Manage organizational external communication, image and public relations. ● Facilitate institutional and individual fundraising efforts, and reporting requirements Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in arts administration, fine arts, music education, music performance or equivalent work experience with non-profits, education, or arts management; Experience in managing symphony orchestras or ensembles is a plus Commitment to music education at the highest level; Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a culturally and ethnically diverse environment, both independently and collaboratively. Skills: ● Excellent verbal and written communication skills ● Strong computer and data management skills; familiarity with Quickbooks, and workplace applications including Canva and Neon ● Effective interpersonal skills ● Experience with people management and supervision ● Keen attention to detail ● Creative and innovative problem solving The position is full-time, with flexible hours (some weekend hours required), and some opportunity to work remotely. Salary will be based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include three weeks’ vacation and a monthly health insurance stipend.
