Community Engagement Coordinator

Job Description 

Merion Friends Meeting (MFM), a Quaker community established in 1682, seeks a part-time Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC) to assist in growing attendance, diversity, and membership through sustained outreach and marketing efforts. In addition to outreach and marketing, the CEC will help expand and coordinate the rentals of Friends Hall and will provide support for the Preservation Capital Campaign. CEC will help MFM achieve its goal of providing a well-grounded and embracing spiritual home for members of the Lower Merion and West Philadelphia community.

 

Specific Responsibilities 

Community Engagement Coordinator will assist Merion Friends Meetings in achieving its joint goals of growth of membership and expanded diversity through outreach and relationship building 

  • Further develop and implement outreach plan
  • Develop marketing materials including a welcome brochure 
  • Send welcome letters and brochures to new residential property owners  
  • Actively build relationships with diverse communities
  • Expand “Know Thy Neighbor” lecture series  
  • Schedule and lead open-house tours of the Meetinghouse
  • Maintain existing social media platforms and develop new ones
  • Build, update & maintain database

 

Broaden MFM outreach into the immediate community (Lower Merion) and the surrounding areas (Wynnefield, Overbrook & West Philadelphia)

 

Expand the use of Friends Hall as a rental, income-producing space, while offering space to diverse groups with limited resources 

  • Develop marketing materials for rentals and community use
  • Do marketing for the space including online and social media
  • Assist in the rental management coordination

 

Assist the Development Committee with implementing the capital campaign to raise funds for the historic preservation of the entire campus.

  • Develop capital campaign brochure and outreach materials
  • Work closely with the development team on grants and donor cultivation
  • Help to maintain a base of support and raise funding to sustain MFM’s outreach efforts
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

 

Education/Training/Experience: 

  • Associate’s Degree/Two years of college + Two (2) years of related work experience OR four (4) years of related work experience 
  • Positive interpersonal skills: friendly and effective communicator 
  • Strong written communication skills, including ability to prepare clear and concise correspondence, reports, and effective social media posts
  • Social media experience a plus
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Willingness to learn new skills
  • Basic knowledge of Canva/Adobe to create graphic content is a plus
  • Some knowledge of Salesforce and willingness to learn
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze, prioritize, and manage work in the context of multiple priorities
  • Proof of legal status to work in the U.S. is required

 

Compensation: $18 - $20 per hour @ 25 hours per week  

 

Location: Hybrid: Office, Field, Home

Organization Description: Merion Friends Meeting was founded in 1682 and has been an active meeting for 342 years. The site and buildings include the 1695 Meetinghouse, the 1804 Jos. Price (Caretaker’s) House, two circa 1829 Horse Sheds, and the 1950 Friends Hall. The Meetinghouse has been designated a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service, one of only 2,600 in the nation. The property is a portion of the Merion Friends Meeting/General Wayne Inn Historic District in Lower Merion Township. Besides serving as Friends’ spiritual home, the property has numerous uses: the Meetinghouse serves as the center for Quaker worship, meetings, and historic tours, Friends Hall is a public space that we use for our first day school and rent out to civic and private groups including a music nursery school, two different dance groups, bar & bat mitzvahs, birthday parties, as well as other social events. Our immediate neighbor in the 1704 General Wayne Inn is the Chabad of the Main Line and we share our parking lot with them as part of a long-term rental agreement.
