About Art-Reach: 

Art-Reach is a disability-centered organization committed to promoting access and inclusion within the cultural arts sector. Our Project 76 Consulting team is a diverse group of individuals with disabilities, chronic illnesses, and varying support needs, dedicated to fostering a more accessible world through evaluation, community connection, and strategic planning.

Position Overview: 

We are seeking passionate and knowledgeable Consulting Advisors who identify as having a disability to participate in a crucial project evaluating accessibility and inclusion at ten cultural sites over a three-month period. This role is vital in helping us understand and improve the experiences of visitors with disabilities. Art-Reach believes in the Disability Rights phrase "Nothing about us, without us" and are specifically seeking individuals with a direct connection to the disability community. The right candidates will align with our values, goals, and mission, bringing their unique perspectives and insights to our work. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct ten site visits over a three-month period, each lasting two to four hours, to evaluate accessibility and inclusion at designated cultural sites. 
  • Take photos and notes during site evaluations and complete a survey of findings for each site, documenting observations and recommendations for improvement. 
  • Participate in a one-hour meeting with the Consulting Team and other advisors for each site to discuss experiences and review survey findings, which can be conducted remotely. 
  • Schedule site visits autonomously within a specified time range, honoring deadlines for survey submissions. 
  • Navigate sites and engage with programming with sensitivity, respect, and awareness of the needs of all visitors. 

 

Qualification Examples:  

  • Strong knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and cultural arts and exhibition practices. 
  • A personal connection to disability, valuing lived experience above legal obligations. 
  • Commitment to disability justice and advocacy for individuals with disabilities. 
  • Experience working independently and managing time effectively, ensuring timely completion of surveys and attendance at meetings. 
  • Reliable access to a computer and the internet to complete survey work and attend virtual meetings. 
  • Reliable transportation for site visits and the capacity to attend sites within the specified time frame. 

 

Compensation: 

  • A stipend of $2,000, paid at a rate of $500 per month over a four-month period, beginning the second week of January. 
  • Complimentary Art-Reach ACCESS card for admissions, or complimentary admissions for you and one guest. 

 

Expectations: 

  • Total commitment of sixty hours over the four-month contract, including: 
    • Two to four hours on-site per cultural site for evaluations, taking photos, and notes. 
    • One hour per site to complete the survey. 
    • A one-hour meeting per site to discuss experiences and review findings with the Consulting Team and other advisors. 
  • It is unlikely that an advisor will attend more than one site per week; they may be asked to attend one site and one meeting within the same week. 
  • Advisors should keep track of their experiences for each site individually, without comparing or contrasting experiences between sites. 
  • Discretion in navigating sites and participating in programming, with an emphasis on artistic sensitivity and respect for each site's visitors. 
  • A passion for influencing and advocating for a more accessible world.
