Director of Development

The Development Director is responsible for overseeing the work of the Development Department and its staff. The work of the Department encompasses all contributed revenue functions of the organization including government, institutional, individual and corporate. The DD works closely with all director-level and executive staff as well as the Board of Directors and is responsible for prospecting, designing, evaluating and implementing our fundraising and cultivation strategies. The DD plays a critical role in developing and implementing our major gifts program (both capital and operations). 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

● Manage staff and oversee the work of the Development Department 

● Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan with specific goals and objectives that delineate measurable, successful outcomes for all fund-raising strategies including grant making, annual campaign and special events, with particular emphasis on individual major gifts 

● Identify and cultivate relationships with prospective donors 

● Responsible for grant opportunity prospecting to identify new grant sources. ● Take the lead on major grant initiatives, and along with the grant writer, work to ensure comprehensive, accurate, and well-written funding proposals and interim and final reports are submitted to funders in a timely manner. 

● Work with the Producing Director and the Board or Directors, to identify cultivation activities with established goals and priorities 

● Guide the Board of Directors in their personal involvement in achieving development goals and objectives 

● Plan and execute the organization’s cultivation activities and events including annual fundraiser 

● Responsible for the management of corporate partnerships, high level partnerships and vendors. 

● Develop a comprehensive understanding of FringeArts’ organizational structure, mission, vision and programmatic platforms which includes working with Artistic Department to gain full understanding of the aesthetic and artistic practice of the artists for whom we are seeking presentation support 

● Develop a comprehensive understanding of organizational and project budgeting 

Qualifications & Requirements: 

● Minimum 5 years experience in all aspects of donor development, with specific skills in the area of individual giving and major individual gifts

● Demonstrated and proven track record of major gift fundraising, including successful solicitation 

● Successful experience managing a development team or department ● Successful experience working in partnership with chief executives 

● Deep commitment to, and passion for our mission and for FringeArts’s work ● Proven success in designing annual campaigns. 

● Outstanding written and oral communication skills 

● Ability to work independently and as a member of a team 

● Excellent interpersonal skills 

● Superior organizational skills, with an ability to pay attention to details, establish priorities, set objectives, and achieve stated goals 

● Strategic, creative, and progressive thinker 

Salary Range: $75,000-$85,000 

Benefits: This is a full-time exempt position. Annual salary range is commensurate with experience. Includes generous health and leave benefits.
