Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance

Theater Audience Surveyors

The Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance seeks several surveyors to assist with surveying of performing arts audiences from November 2024 to March 2025.

Background:

Founded in 1972, the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance is one of the nation’s best-known and most effective arts service organizations. We lead, strengthen and amplify the voices of a cultural community that ignites creativity, inspires people and is essential for a healthy region. As part of that work, the Cultural Alliance is committed to increasing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) within the Alliance and the broader cultural community. Through research, advocacy, and program development, we strive to achieve these goals.

Position Overview:

Surveyors will help gather key data points (audience demographics, frequency of arts event attendance, reasons for attending, etc.) from audiences at theater events in Greater Philadelphia. Data collected throughout this process will play an essential role in a research effort to understand the challenges of attracting and retaining audiences in the post-pandemic environment. Arts and culture organizations depend on this research, which is made possible through this on the ground work of surveyors, to inform programming, operations, and marketing to attract audiences.

The Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance will collect at least 500 audience surveys at theaters as part of our upcoming report analyzing audience behavior. Surveying will be ongoing between November 2024 and March 2025. We will send surveyors to roughly six events each, collecting surveys via iPads in pairs. Surveyors will receive $60 for each event worked (for up to a total of $420), which will take place across the five-county region. They will also participate in mandatory training, for which they will be paid $60 each.

Hours and Location:

Training will be provided via Zoom in early December. Survey events will be held across the five-county region (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties), and preference will be given to surveyors available at various times and locations.

Surveyors must pick up materials at the Cultural Alliance’s Center City, Philadelphia office.

Compensation:

$60 per event contract rate for events worked, pre-paid SEPTA cards or gas cards for travel reimbursement
